INCA NDESCENT ELECTRlC LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,007, dated November 2, 1886.

This invention relates to incandescent electric lamps, and has for its object to provide the same with ashade which shall be supported upon the lamp without necessitating the employment of additional attachments to keep it in place upon said lamp.
Incandescent electric lamps have heretofore been provided with a shade secured by screws or other suitable means to arms attached to the holder of the lamp. My invention in incandescent lamps consists in a bulb, a mold to hold said bulb, a band surrounding said mold and provided at one end with a flange to form a seat for a shade, and having pins or projections at or near its other end, combined with a shade having a collar provided with grooves, whereby said shade may be fitted to its seat on said flange, and with a holder having a groove in which said pins are rotated to fasten the lamp to said holder, and to secure the shade firmly upon the lamp.
Figure 1 is a partial section and elevation of an incandescent electric lamp embodying my invention, the holder being in elevation; Fig. 2, a top view of the shade detached from the lamp and broken off to save space in the drawings; and Fig. 3, a sectional view of Fig. 1 on line mm, with the shade removed.
The glass bulb a, containing the usual carbon filament, a, and platinum electrodes a a is embedded in a plaster-of-paris mold, a, which is surrounded by a preferably metallic band, b, said plaster-of-paris mold having also embedded in it terminal electrodes 12 b*, to which the platinum electrodes 0. a are connected.
The band 1), near its upper end, is provided with pins or projections b If, adapted to enter slots b b, and be rotated in a groove, f, in the shell or casing c of the holder, substantially as described in United States application No. 166,382, dated May 22, 1885. (Patented April 6, 1886, No. 339,217.) The band I) is flanged at its lower end, as at c, said flange forming a seat for the collar e of a shade, c, said collar being struck up and provided with grooves e 6, (see Fig. 2,) which permit the shade to be slipped over and past the pins or projections b b to its seat on the flange c, said pins traveling in said grooves when the shade is placed upon the lamp.
Theshade is maintained in position upon the lamp by means of the shell or casing c of the holder, the lamp being secured to its holder by inserting the pins 1) b in the slots 1) b and turning the lamp to rotate said pins in the groove f in the shell or casing 0, thus placing said pins out of line with the grooves e e in the collar of the shade.
To remove the shade from the lamp,"the lamp is first removed from its holder, and the pins or projections b b on the band b are slipped through the grooves e e in the collar of the shade.
I have herein shown the band b provided with two pins, but it is obvious that one pin' might be used; but I prefer the construction shown.
I claim- 1. In an incandescent electric lamp, the bulb, the mold to hold said bulb, the band surrounding said mold and provided at one end with a flange, and having a pin or pins at or near its other end, combined with the shade e having the collar e, provided with a groove or grooves, whereby said shade may be fitted to its seat on said flange, and with a holder having a groove in which said pin or pins are rotated to fasten said lamp to said holder, said holder securing said shade firmly upon said lamp, substantially as set forth.

having the collar e, provi'dedwith grooves e 6", whereby said shade may be fitted to its seat on the flange e, and with a holder having a groove in which said pins are rotated to fasten said lamp to said holder, said holder securing said shade firmly upon said lamp,
substantially as described.
