T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NORMAN W. NU'r'r, a citizen of the United States, residin at Trenton, in. the county of Mercer and tate of New Jersey, have invented certain new;
and useful Improvements in Electric-Lamp Fixtures or Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in electric lamp fixtures or supports generally, and more particularly to combined types of lamp socket husks and shades or reflectors, or globe, shade or reflector holders.
The principal object of the invention is to provide for devices of the class mentioned, and of a construction and arrangement tending toward simplicity in design, ease in assembling and installing, and comparatively low cost in manufacture.
Another object of the invention is to provide for a means whereby to efiectively ventilate the interiors of electric lamp shades, reflectors, or the holders thereof, or the combined types of shade or reflector and lamp socket holders, whereby the intensive heat, generated by an electric lamp confined within a shade or reflector, is radiated or otherwise allowed to escape therefrom.
WVith the foregoing and other equally important advantages and objects in view, the invention resides in the certain new, novel and useful construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which illustrates in side elevation, partly in section, a combined electric lamp socket and shade holder in accordance with this invention, the parts of the same being shown in position for the assembling thereof,
Referring to the drawing, and the numeral 10 indicates generally the upper portion of an electric lamp socket inclosing husk, which is closed at its upper end by a curved or semi-spherical wall portion 11, and is open at its lower end for the impression into position therein of a lamp socket (not shown). The lower open end of this portion of the husk 10 is screw-threaded, as at 12, for the attachment thereto of the lower portion 13 of the husk, which is intogrally formed at the upper end of a substantially conical shaped shade or reflector body 14, the portion 13 thereof being screwthreaded complementally to the threaded portion 12, of the husk body, for the purpose. Medially between .the integrally formed threaded husk portionc' l3 and-the upper 'end of the. shade reflector proper, there is providedan annular or substantially. cylindrical wall portion 15, which is formed with a series of equidistantl'y spaced open-' ings 16, whereby to ventilate the interior of the shade or reflector and to greatly reduce the temperature immediately around the base of the lamp bulb (not shown) positioned within the shade or reflector, and the lamp globe supporting socket (not shown)- housed within the husk portions 10 and 13.
In the use of this type of light support or I fixture, the upper husk portion lO'has its end wall 11 formed with a centrally arranged opening, as at 17 through which the free ends ofa pair of circuit conductors (not shown) are threaded for'attachment to the binding contacts or screws or a lampsocket inserted upwardly of the lower open end therof, when the lower husk portion 13 and the shade or reflector 14, will be threaded onto the lower threaded end 12 of the 1 either insulating or non-insulating, capable of being pressed or moulded into the required configuration or form.
From the foregoing it will be readily apparent to the electrical trade, that-the invention provides for novel, useful and attractive form of electric lamp support or fixture, providing a combined lamp socket and shade and reflector husk and holder of simple and inexpensive construction and arrangement, affording quick and easy assembling and installing of the same and the associated parts thereof with a marked reduction in the manual operations required for the purpose, and in time for the accomplishment thereof, and, by, the provision of the means for ventilating the interiors of the parts of the fixture or support, the handling of the same is facilitated when in use, without the usual annoyance and discomfort occasioned by the heating up of the parts by the lamps positioned within the globes, shades or reflectors.
It is well understood that, while the preferred embodiment of the electric lamp fixture or support have been described and illustrated herein in specific terms and details of construction and arrangement, various changes in and modifications of the same may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the claim appending hereto.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed, is
An electric lamp husk comprising a hollow upper section cylindrical throughout and having a top portion formed with a central opening, the lower terminal portion of said section being threaded internally and externally and with the threads thereof terminating at the lower edge of said section, a lower section including a cylindrical upper portion and a flaring lower portion, said upper portion having its upper part threaded internally and externally for engagement with the threads of the upper section and further for engagement with the threads of a lamp socket and said upper portion having the lower part thereof formed with a series of openings spaced from said flaring portion of said lower section.
