HALF-SOLE FOR BOOTS OR SHOES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,953, dated November 2, 1886.

Be it known that I, DARIUS BANKS, of Morrisville, Bucks county, and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented a new and Improved Half-Sole for Boots or Shoes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a half-sole for boots or shoes provided with a plate for attaching the half-sole to theoriginal instep-sole of the boot or shoe.
The invention consists of the special form of the plate, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, of which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 shows a half-sole made in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, showing the halfsole attached to the instep-sole.
The half-sole A is made of leather, rubber, or composition molded into shape and formed with a V-shaped recess atits rear, into which recess the metallic fastening-plate, B is inserted. This fastening-plate Bis formed with numerous perforations b,.for the passage of pegs 'nails, or other fastening devices for securing the 'half-soleto the instep-sole O and to the foot or shoe. The plate B is bent to form the sharp portion a, which enters the V-.
shaped recess in the rear edge of the half-sole, and also to form the outer plate, a, which are spread apart to receive the edge of the instepsole 0, as shown clearly in Fig. 2..
The main body of the halfsole is secured to the boot or shoe bythe nails 0, which, if the half-sole be molded from rubber composition, will be molded in and with the material 00lllposing the half-sole.
