BLANKET OR SIMILAR ARTICLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,031, dated O ctober 19, 1886.

To all whom it may concern.-

' Be it known that I, ROBERT G. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Folding and Hanging Blankets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it. appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to produce means for readily folding and hanging blankels and similar articles.

\Vith this end in view I have devised the novel construction and arrangement of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is aspecification.

1 indicates the article, and 2 rings, loops, straps, or other holding devices, a series of which are secured to the article midway be tween opposite sides or ends. The number of these rings or holding devices is not of the essence of my invention, although three is the number that I ordinarily use,being amply sufficient for all ordinary articles. Two of these rings or holding devices are attached near the opposite edges, as clearly shown, and the other oneabout midway between them.

In order to illustrate the principle of my invention more clearly, I have shown the holding devices of amuch larger size relatively to the article than would ordinarily be used. These holding devices may be made of any ordinary materialas, for example, metal, wood, leather, or a suitable compositionand they may be attached to the article in any suitable manner. In the presentinstance I have shown rings held by loops 3, which are secured in place upon the blanket or other article by disks 4, of leather, stitched to the article. Straps, however, may be riveted directly to the article, if preferred, as shown in Fig. 5. Suppose that it is desired to take a blanket from a horse and fold it, or to fold any similar article, one of the outside holding devices is caught in one hand and sired to give the article still another fold, the

holding devices are all taken in one hand. This will give the article three folds, the position after folding being clearly indicated in Fig. 4, the three holding devices being at this time in line with each other. The article may now be readily hung up by catching the three rings or holding devices over a nail or pe I have found my invention in practice to be of especial value as applied to horse-blankets, both in traveling and in the barn. By the use of this invention a blanket may be folded in the night as Well as by daylight, in a fraction of the time ordinarily required, and much more neatly and compactly. In connection with stable-blankets, it is, if possible,still more valuable. It is of course well known that the stable-blanket is an article that rarely has a place ofits own. It maybe folded up or hung up, but rarely either. It is of course inconven ient to provide shelves for the several blankets used by horses in a row of stalls. The blank ets are therefore frequently thrown into the most convenient corner. My present invention, however, enables a blanket to be readily and quickly folded as it is removed from the horse, and to be hung up entirely out of the way, there being no danger of its dangling on the floor or falling down.

Having thus described my invention, I 0l2LllIl- As an improved manufacture, a blanket or similar article provided with two or more hanging devices arranged centrally thereof, two of the said devices being at or near the op posite edges of the said article, whereby the said hanging devices are adapted for use in evenly folding as well as in suspending the article to which they are attached, substanlially as set forth.
