MILK-SERVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,552, dated November 8, 1904.
Application filed March 5, 1904.
To 11]] whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and 1mproved Milk-Server, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device intended particularly for use by persons delivering bottled milk, but useful in various other connections, as will be apparent. In the work of delivering bottled milk, particularly in cities, where a number of different families live in a single house, great inconvenience is experienced by the person delivering the milk in carrying the required number of bottles into the house at one trip from the delivery-wagon. According to the practice now in vogue it is frequent that several trips are necessary. The present invention seeks to overcome this disadvantage by providing a device which may be readily adjusted to the number of bottles or packages required to be carried, so that whether a large or a small number of bottles are to be delivered at a single house the instrument will nevertheless be susceptible to such adjustment as will adapt it to the existing conditions.
This specification is an exact description of one example of my invention, while the claims define the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the invention on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view illustrating the sliding connection between two of the sections of the device. Fig.4 is a cross-section of the device in its folded or contracted form, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail of the sliding connection between two of the sections.
According to the construction here shown the milk-server is formed in three sections A, B, and C, which are arranged to be extended one above the other, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or nested one within the other, as shown Serial No. 196,710. (No model.)

11 indicates a bail or handle which is attached to the upper section A. and by means of which the device may be convenientlycarried. Each section is provided with partitions a, 7). and 0, these being arranged to nest one over the other, as shown in Fig. 4, when the device is folded and forming the several sections into a number of compartments adapted one for each bottle. The number of these compartments may be any desired. According to the construction here shown-I have illustrated each section as provided with six compartments, so that the maximum capacity of a milk-server is eighteen bottles. When the device is extended, as in Figs. 1 and 2, the catches 10 are moved into their outer or inactive position.
The several sections A, B, and C are joined together by contractible connections. (Illustrated in detail in Figs. 3 and 5.) These connections are in two series, one series connecting the bottom and middle section of'the milkserver and the other series connecting the middle and top'sections of the milk -server.
Each series comprises four connections, arranged one at each corner of the respective section of the milk-server, and each connection comprises three telescopic members 12,14, and 15, the members 12 and 15 being joined to the two sections of the milk-server which are to be connected and the member 14 being loosely engaged with the members 12 and 15. The two members 12 and 14, which are the bottom members of each connection, are formed with longitudinal slots 16 at their inner sides, and through these slotsthe outwardly-projecting arms 17 are arranged to pass, said arms being attached to the part 15 of the connection and to the upper of the two sections of the milk-server which are to be joined by the connection. Said arms 17 serve, therefore, rigidly to fasten the connection-sections 15 in place, and when the milk-server is folded, as in Fig. 4, the parts 15 and 14 lie within the part 12 and the arms 17 extend through the slots 16. The parts 15 and 14 of the said telescopic connections are formed at their lower edges with flanges 18, which limit the outward movement of said parts, and the connections are held within the milk-server sections in folded position by means of the be fore-described catches 10.
The several sections A, B, and C of the milkserver may be of any specific construction desired. They are here illustrated as formed of metallic slats suitably riveted together, and this is the construction preferred. The device may, however, be made of woven wire, foraminated metal, or a composite structure of Wood and iron without departing from the essential principles of my invention.
Various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of my invention maybe resorted to at will Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I consider myself entitled to all such variations as may lie within the intent of my claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A milk'server, comprising aplurality of sections capable each of carrying a number of packages and of nesting one within the other, or of moving to extended position one above the other, means for removably holding the sections nested, and means for limiting the outward or separate movement of said sections, the former means comprising catches pivoted on the bottom or main section and capable of swinging inward into engagement with the other sections to hold them nested.
2. A milk-server, comprising two sections capable of nesting the one within the other, a connection-section attached to the bottom section of the milk-server, a connection-section sliding freely on the first-named connectionsection, and a third connection-section, attached to the second or remaining section of the milk-server by means of a transverselyextending arm, the first and second connection-sections having longitudinal slots therein to receive the said arm.
3. A milk-server, comprising a plurality of sections capable of nesting one Within the other or of being moved to extended position, for the purpose specified, and partitions Within said sections, the partitions of the bottom or outer sections being constructed of parts capable of nesting within the parts of the partitions of the upper section.

A milk-server comprising a plurality of sections capable each of carrying a number of packages, and each having a partition separating the packages, the said sections being capable of nesting one Within the other or of moving to extended position one beyond the other, and the partitions of one section nesting within the partitions of the other section when said sections are nested together.
