lhe object of the within-described invcntion is to obtain a simple and efficient means for regulating the pressu re of. the rubber on the clothes; and to this end the invention consists in having the bearings of the rubber shaft attached to a sliding frame which has an adjustable weight andelastie bar eonilccted with it and arranged as hereinafter fully shown and described.

To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and. construct myinventioml will proceed to describe it.

The spring H has a tendency to keep the rubber D elevated above the surface of the concave, so that it shall not be in contact therewith. The rubber I) is operated, through the medium of the handles J, with an oscillating movement, the clothes being acted. upon or subjected to the necessary friction and rubbing between the concave. and rubber. The weight I graduates the pressure of the, rubber on the clothes by being adjusted on the spring ll nearer to or farther from the lower part of the frame 1. \Vhen the weight- I is adjusted on the spring I-I back from the frame F, it'of course has less power on the frame F, and the'pressu re of the rubber .l) on the clothes is reduced,

the pressure of the latter being increased as theweight is shoved toward the frame. By this arrangement. the pressure of the rubber I) may he graduated as desired with the greatest facility, and the machine thereby rendered capable of being adapted for washing fine or coarse clothes.

I do not claim a reciprocating partially-ro-- tating rubber in connection with a concave for washing clothes, fol-these part-s constitute an old and well-known device; but
