IMPROVED CLOTHES WRINGER AND MANGLE COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,716, dated June 24, 1862.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, J. D. TIFFT, of Cuyahoga Falls, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Clothes Vringer and Mangle; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View. Fig. 2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a vertical section in the direction of the line x x in Fig. 2; and Figs. 4 and 5 are views ofthe elastic rollers for wringing purposes.

A is the base, that may be made of wood or any suitable material.
B represents two sets of posts which support the rollers.
C C are the mangle-rollers, made of hard wood, with a gudgeon in each end, or a shaft passing through them, as seen in Fig. 3. In the process of wringing these maybe removed and replaced by elastic rollers D D', Figs. 4 and 5. Thelower one in both cases is provided with a crank, L`
The boxes for the roller -journals are secured between the posts B, E E representing the lower ones and F F the upper ones. Theupper ones move up and down in the groove a upon the inside of the posts.
Immediately above the boxes F are placed elastic springs G, which rest upon the boxes F, as seen in Fig. 3, and above them are semicircular bearings c and d, the wedges m and a entering between them, producing more or less pressure upon the springs. The upper bearings, d d, come against the under side of the cross-bar K.
