Description

v(No Model.)
' o. e. UDBLL.
ToWBL ROLLER. Patented Sept. 28, 1886.
W11: VIJA'SES.
- WOMM UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
CALVIN G. UDELL, OF NORTH INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
TOWEL- ROLLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,770, dated September 28, 1,886.
Application filed November 9, 1885. Serial No. 182,380. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN G., UDELL, a
resident of North Indianapolis,Marion county,
In the drawings, Figure l is a front view of the complete device ready for use. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, drawn on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a side View of the bracket as cast and before driven down upon the wood of the frame, drawn upon a scale with Fig. 2. Fig. et is a perspective view showing the ear of the left-hand bracket, and showing the loop for the insertion or the removal of the gudgeon of the roller r.
In detail, o is the roller, made of wood, with gudgeons on its ends, in the usual way, which revolve in bearings in the brackets on each side. t is the top, made of a thin piece of wood, and b are similar pieces composing the back. By using two pieces for the back narrow strips of stuff may be utilized. The bracket is made of malleable iron, and is provided with short spurs s, for driving intothe wood, and
points p on the back. It is also provided with upward projections or hangers h, having eyes for receiving screws or nails, which hold up the frame against the wall. The left-hand bracket in Fig. l has also a projecting loop or ear, which, when the roller` is raised-allows the gudgeon to be drawn through it and out from the frame when the towel needs renewing, endless towels, of conrse, being used. The
bracket is made of the shape shown in Fig. 3,
and when the wooden strips composing theV top and back are inserted the iron-work is hammered down, forcing the spurs and points into the wood, holdingv the parts tightly to gether. No nails or screws whatever are necessary.
I am aware that towel-rollers supported in frames and upon brackets are not new, and do not broadly claim the same as my invention.
What I do claim, however, as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is the following: l,
1. The towel-roller r, journaled at each end in the metal brackets br, having openings to receive one or more boards, b, at the back and above to receive the top t, substantially as'described. o
2. The bracket br, made of malleable iron, providing bearings for the journals of a removable towel roller, having the elliptical opening above to receive the top t and openings in the rear to receive the strips composing the back of the frame, and provided with spurs s, for securing the frame-strips in place when the spurs are driven in, all combined substantially as described.
3. The device for hanging towels, composed of the roller o',- journaled in the malleableiron brackets In', the back strips, b, and the top t, forming the frame, resting in openings provided 'in such brackets, and secured by driving-spu rs s, connected with the bracket, and the hangers h, integral with the top ofthe bracket, all combined substantially as described.
In witnesswhereof I have hereto set my hand this 6th day of November, 1885.
CALVIN G. UDELL.
