BOUQUET-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,332, dated August 31, 1886.

Application filed July 9, 1886.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER llIOLANE, of Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Bouquet-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to a holder adapted for holding bouquets of flowers and other articles of ornament or use, and has for its ob- IO ject to provide a simple, inexpensive, and

effective device of this character.

The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts of the holder, all as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement as applied to use to hold a flower. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the head or clasp of the holder is formed. Fig. 3 is a front view of the holder with the attaching-pin fixed to the head. Fig. at is a view taken at right angles to Fig. 3 with the head or clasp in crosssection; and Fig. 5 is an inner face view of the holder with its head or clasp slightly modified in form.

The holder consists of a head or clasp, A, and a pin, 13, held to the head and adapted to be passed into the lappel of a coat or into any other article, to attach thereto the holder and a flower, O, for instance, held by the holder. The head-piece or clasp A is made with two prongs or fingers, a a, at one end, and with a single central prong or finger, c, at the other end, and about the center of the head it is provided with a series of longitudinally-ranging slits, a, preferably four, and at one edge and opposite these slits a lip or tongue, a is formed on the head, and whereby when the holder-pin B is passed or interlaced through the series of slits c the tongue a may be bent over the head I) of the pin to hold the pin securely to the head or clasp A, as clearly shown in the drawings. The head or clasp A is made preferably of some suitable thin flexible metal allowing the prongs or fingers a a to be easily bent by the hand around the stem of a flower or other article to clasp and hold it.

its stem 0 at the back of the head-piece A and over the pin 13, and the prongs a a a will be bent around the stem, the prong a entering the central space, a, between the two prongs a a, as shown in Fig. 1, to firmly clasp the stem, and the flower may then be fastened to a coat or other article by the pin 13, as above stated. The extremity of the prongs a. may be provided with an ornament of any preferred design, a stellate ornament, a ffor instance, which will appear at the side of the holder, and the article held by it, as shown in Fig. 1. The ornamental head or end finish, as at a, is formed when thehead Ais stamped out by dies. (See Figs. 2 and 8, of the drawings.) If preferred, the ornament at the extremity of the prong a may be dispensed with, as shown in Fig. 5.

It is obvious that the above-described de vice is adapted for holding a variety of articles for purposes both useful and ornamental, including the display of merchanise on sale, and the device is very cheap and is effective in use.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A bouquet-holder comprising a headpiece, A, and an attached pin, B, and said head A formed at one end with two prongs, a a, spaced apart at a, and a prong, a, at the opposite end adapted to pass into the space a" when the prongs are bent around an article to be held, substantially as described, for the purposes set forth.

2. A bouquet-holder comprising a headpiece, A, formed with end prongs adapted to be bent around an article to hold it and pro vided with slits, as at a, and a pin, B, interlaced through the slits, substantially as shown and described.

3. The combination, in abouquetholder, of 5 a headpiece, A, formed with end prongs, a a a, slits a and a side tongue, a, and a pin, B, having a head, I), and passed through the slits a", and the tongue a, bent over outside the pin-head, substantially as described, for the purposes set forth.
