Cl. 24-6 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An attaching device for supporting an article on a garment that has a pin with a shank portion and a head on one end of the shank. The shank is configured to form a point at its opposite end for passing the pin through a portion of the garment so that the head and point of the pin are expected on the surface thereof. Advantageously an elongated band is provided having an unexpanded length shorter than the pin, the band having one end engaged with the pin adjacent the head and having its opposite end configured as a pocket. The band is resilient for elongation of the band into supporting engagement with the article to be worn on the garment and for positioning the pocket to receive the point of the pin to protect the body of the wearer.
The present invention relates to an attaching device for supporting an article on a garment which may be used particularly advantageously as a corsage pin.
It is a well known problem that women frequently have difliculty in pinning a corsage on their clothes. In addition, it is a frequent occurrence for the sharp end of the corsage pin to scratch or stab the body of the user.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel attaching device for supporting an article on a garment by means of a pin that readily supports an article such as a corsage and at the same time protects the body of the user from the sharp point of the pin.
It is another object of this invention to provide such an attaching device that has a resilient member that may be elongated to support a corsage and at the same time has a safety feature to protect the body of the user from the sharp end of the corsage pin.
It is another object of this invention to provide such an attaching device that is simple and effective in use and relatively economical to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be readily apparent from the following detailed specifications, the claims and the drawing appended hereto, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the attaching device of this invention shown supporting a corsage on the garment of a wearer.
FIGURE 2 is a view showing the stem of the corsage supported by the attaching device.
FIGURE 3 is a side elevational view of the attaching device.
It has now been found that the foregoing and related objects can be readily attained in attaching devices for supporting a corsage on a garment having a pin and a shank portion and a head on one end of the shank. The shank is configured to form a point :at its opposite end for passing the pin through a portion of the garment so that the head and point of the pin will be exposed on the surface of the garment. Advantageously, an elongated band is provided having an unexpanded length shorter than the pin, the band having one end engaged with the pin adjacent the head and having its opposite end configured as a pocket, thereby providing a highly desirable safety feature. The band is resilient for convenient elongation of the band into supporting engagament with the 3,460,206 Patented Aug. 12, 1969 article to be worn on the garment and for positioning the pocket to advantageously receive the point of the pin thus protecting the body of the user in a simple and highly effective manner.
The elongated band may be of rubber material and have one end of the band folded back upon itself into a hook configuration. A cover is provided about the hook configuration in order to hold the end of the band in this shape to form the safety pocket. The cover may also be of resilient material. One end of the band is engaged with the pin adjacent the head and has the pin disposed in an aperture in the band formed by forcing the pin through the band at the end thereof. The band is resiliently extensible so that it may be stretched and wrapped about a portion of the article to be supported to provide supporting engagement therewith in an economical and convenient manner.
The attaching device may be in the form of a corsage pin wherein the band is adapted to be streatched and wrapped about the stem of the corsage and then further extended so that the point of the pin may be placed in the pocket, thereby attaching the corsage firmly to the pin which may be attached to a garment in a conventional manner. The band may be of resilient material such as rubher or synthetic plastic material and the like. The band is adapted to be readily twisted in order to provide a tight support for a corsage having a relatively thin stem. Thus a corsage pin is provided that readily supports a corsage and has the additional highly advantageous feature of protecting the point of the pin from injuring the body of the user.
Referring now to the drawings there is illustrated the corsage attaching means having a pin generally designated by the numeral 10 with a shaft 12 and a conventional head 14 on one end and a sharp point 16 on the opposite end thereof. Advantageously there is provided a resilient attaching member 20 which has one end attached to the shaft 12 and is disposed adjacent the head 14 of the pin 10. The opposite end of the attaching member 20 is constructed in a highly desirable manner by having the end of the attaching member 20 folded back upon itself to form a loop 22 with a portion 24 of the attaching member extending back upon itself a short distance. The loop is disposed in a cover 26, also of elastic material, which covers the loop 22 and configures this portion of the attaching member into a pocket or bulb configuration.
The attaching member 20, as illustrated, is desirably of a shorter length then the shaft 12 so that the attaching member may be expanded or stretched and the point 16 disposed within the pocket 26. This desirable construction of a corsage attaching means also allows the attaching member to be stretched and wrapped around the stem 30 of a corsage 32 as illustrated in FIG. 1. Thus, the attaching member may be wrapped one or more times around the stem 32 and the shaft 12 inserted in a supporting garment 34 in the usual manner with the point 16 exposed and inserted in the pocket portion 26.
Accordingly, the attaching member 20 provides a convenient and inexpensive method of effectively supporting a corsage 32 on a pin 10 whereby the corsage is conveniently supported on the pin and the pin point is protected from injuring the body of the user.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. An attaching device for supporting an article on a garment comprising a pin having a shank portion and a head on one end of said shank, said shank being configured to form a point at its opposite end for passing said pin through a portion of the garment so that said head and point of said pin are exposed on the surface of the garment, an elongated band having a length shorter than said pin, said band having one end engaged with said pin adjacent said head and having its opposite end configured as a pocket, said band being resilient for elongation of said band into supporting engagement with the article to be worn on the garment and for positioning said pocket to receive said point to protect the body of the wearer, wherein said band is engaged with said pin adjacent said head by having said pin disposed in an aperture in said band formed by forcing said pin through said band at one end thereof and wherein said band is resiliently wrapped about a portion of the article to be supported for providing said supporting engagement.
2. An attaching device for supporting an article on a garment comprising a pin having a shank portion and a head on one end of said shank, said shank being configured to form a point at its opposite end for passing said pin through a portion of the garment so that said head and point of said pin are exposed on the surface of the garment, an elongated band having a length shorter than said pin, said band having one end engaged with said pin adjacent said head and having its opposite end configured as a pocket, said band being resilient for elongation of said band into supporting engagement with the article to be worn on the garment and for positioning said pocket to receive said point to protect the body of the wearer, said elongated band is of rubber material and one end of said band is folded back upon itself into a hook configuration and wherein a cover is provided about said hook configuration holding said one end of said band in this shape to form said pocket.

The attaching device of claim 2 wherein said band is engaged with said pin adjacent said head by having said pin disposed in an aperture in said band formed by forcing said pin through said band at one end thereof and wherein said band is resiliently wrapped about a portion of the article to be supported for providing said supporting engagement.

A corsage pinning device comprising a corsage pin having an elongated shank portion and a head on one end of said shank, said shank being configured to form a point at its opposite end for passing said pin through a portion of the garment of the user so that said head and point portions of said pin are exposed on the surface of the garment, an elongated band having a length shorter than said pin and having one end engaged with said pin adjacent said head, the opposite end of said band being folded back upon itself into a hook configuration and having a cover about said hook configuration providing a pocket at said opposite end of said band, said band being of rubber material for resilient elongation of said band into supporting engagement with the article to be worn on the garment and for positioning said pocket to receive said point to protect the body of the wearer.
