Description

UNITED STATES PATENT rrrcn.
ORSON YOUMAN, oir WALNUT, IOWA.
l HAWSTA'KING'DERRICK.
SPECIHCATION refining part nineteen Patent No. 347.755. dated August 17. 1886,.
` Application filed February 23, i886. Serial No. 192,770. (No model.)
y resident of Valnnt, in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented a Hay-Stacking Derrick, of which the following is afspecilication.
My object is to facilitate the handling of loose hay vand the building of stacks, and to save time, labor, and expense in placing hay and straw in stacks when barns are not available.
My invention consists in thc structurehereinat'tcr described, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings.
Figure 1,1's an end view, and Fig. 2 a side view, showingr my complete device in position as required forpractical usc.
N os. 1, 2, and 3 are wooden posts, that may vary in size as desired. They have pins a formed integral therewith or'ixed `.to their tops, to extend upward, and pulleys b,jour naled in niortises near their tops or otherwise attached. e"
c c c are brackets `rigidly fixed to a straight wooden beam, d, at equal distances apart, to extend laterally, to produce a frame adapted to be combined with the posts when they are set up to form a derrick.
f represents adetachable metal loop or clasp fixed to the upper bar and frec' end A"of each.
one of the brackets, by means of a 'bolt or in any suitable way, to serve as a bearing to engage one of the posts.
ff represents a metal plate or projection on each side of the free end of the lower and inclined bar of eadh bracket, that will serve as a guide in the u-pad-down movements of the complete` iframe, when 'combinedjifwitli the posts. f l A h represents a hay-carrier track suspended :from the beam d by means of links '17,orin any suitable Way,in such a manner that a carrier,
k, vcan be readily moved thereon from one end 5' quired in carrying loaded forks to different of thefcomplete der rick vto the other, as rcpositions,an`d dropping hayif'up'on the stack a't "different points.
Ropes are attached to the brackets c and passed overL the pulleys b, .to be fastened to cleats iixed to the lower portions ot' the posts, as required, Ato retainthe complete adjustable frame at any elevation desired.
In the practical use" Of my' derrick, constrnctedA as shown and described, I bring a wagon loaded with haypr straw in posit-ion,
as illustrated in Fig. l, and then, by means of a hay-fork and ltackling connected with the carrier k on the track 11n`nload the wagon and build a stack aside of the posts. After finishing one stack I detach the frame that supports the track and carrier, and place it on the opposite sides of the posts, and then build a second stack before. removing the derrick.
I claim as my invention r 1. Aframe comprising two or more brackcts having loops or clasps on their inner ends, and a straight beam and a hay-carrier track suspended parallel therewith, in combination with two or more derrick-posts, for the pur-v poses stated.
2. The improved haystacki ng derrick com prising two or more posts having pins attheir I top ends and pulleys near theirtops,a`detach able and adjustable frame having lov ps and guides to engage the posts,'and a suspended hay-carrier track, guys fixed to the! pins at the to s of the posts, and ropes combined with the a jnfstabl. frame and the pulleys in the posts, to operate in thejmanner set," forth, for
the purposes stated i ORSON YOUMAN.
