Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may ooncern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR L. RAYMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marinette, in the county of Marinette and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Log-Hoist and Car-Loader, of which the following is a spec. fication.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in log-hoists and carloaders, and espec'ally over my log-loader shown. and descnbed in Unted States Letters Patent No. 768,402, and has for its ob ject to provf de a much simpler l0gloader and one that can be swung around without moving the sled.
Another object of my invention is to provide a log-loader that can be adjusted so that tllile boom can swing with the log automatica y.
A further object of the invention is to provide a derrick mounted upon a platform pivotally mounted on a sled, so that it can be Quickly and easily adjusted.
With these various objects in view the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangements of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved derrick and log-loader in operation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the cap. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the pulley in the mast. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the boom, and Fig. 6 is a plan view of the cap.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the sled, which consists of the runners A, which are connected together at their ends by crossbars A or by a tube having a chain passing through it, the ends being connected to the runners, to which are also connected the ends of the draft-chains A The runners are pro vi (led with notches A in which is mounted a central bar A the ends A being formed oval in shape, and are secured in the notches by a metal strip A and a bolt A, which allows the bar to rock in the notches for the purpose hereinafter described.
Pivotally mounted on the bar A is a frame B, consisting of the three parallel bars B, connected together at their ends by the cross-bars B and at the center by the bars B The frame is secured to the sled by a king-bolt B passin down through the central parallel bar B" an bar A of the sled. Mounted on the central parallel bar B adjacent one end is a mast C, having a reduced upper portion forming a shoulder C. The mast is securely steadied by the braces O and. C connected to the frame. The upper end of the mast is reduced, forming a shoulder upon which the cap D rests, carrying rings D, to which the guy-ropes E, carrying turnbuckles, are connected, the other end. of the rope being connected to eyebolts carried by the frame. EX- tending out from each side of the cap are perforated lugs D provided with rings to which are connected guy-ropes D carrying hooks at their ends adapted to be connected to near-by trees for the purpose of steadying the loader. The lower portion of the mast is slotted and is provided with a pulley F, journaled therein.
A boom G, provided with arms G, is mounted on the shoulder C of the mast O andconnected to the mast by a chain I-I, provided with ahook at each end, connected. to an eyebolt carried by the boom and mast. The outer end of the boom is provided with a sleeve G provided with perforated lugs G 4 the upper lug being connected by a cable to a hook G pivoted on the bolt D of the cap. The lower lug supports the block I, to which one end of the cable J is connected, which supports the block J, carrying the crotchchains and hook J the other end of the cable passing over the block I and through the pulley G carried by the boom G, and down and. out over the pulley F and connected to the ordinary double-tree L. A rope is connect, ed to the crotchchain, so that the boom can be drawn back after a log has been placed in position. From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have greatly improved the construction of the loader, as the frame carrying the derrick can be turned to any position desired and at the same time it can be rocked in the bar A, so as tothrow the mast at an angle, so that the boom will swing back with a log to the place desired.
The frame is locked into the position desired by chuck-blocks N, as clearly shown.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a sled having a bar loosely mounted thereon, of a platform-pivoted to said bar, and means for adjusting said platform, for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the kind described, the
combination with a pair of sled-runners loosely connected together, of a bar loosely mounted on said runners, a platform pivoted on said bar, carrying a derrick and means for adjusting said platform for the purpose described.
3. In a device of the kind described, the
' combination with a pair of sled-runners provided with notches, of an oval bar working in said notches, a platform pivoted to said bar, provided with a mast provided with a boom, carrying block and tackle, and means for adjusting said platform, on said sled, for the purpose described.
4. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a sled, of a rocker-bar mounted on said sled, a frame pivoted on said bar, a mast secured on said platform, a cap secured on said mast, a boom carrying block and tackle mounted on said mast, and means for adjusting said platform, for the purpose described.
5. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a pair of runners, loosely connected together at each end, notches formed in said runners, a bar provided with oval ends adapted to rock in said notches, means for securing said bar in the notches, a platform pivoted to said bar provided with a derrick, and means for adjusting the platform in an inclined position to the runners, for the purpose described.
