Description

zz/mmiq CH mm 275/192:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
T. 0. RICHARDS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CU RTAlN-FIXTU RES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,593, dated March 4, 1862.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, T. C. RICHARDS, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the'accompanyiug drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my invention; Fig. 2, a side View of the same, and Fig. 3 an inverted plan of the same. Fig. 4 is a side view representing another form of the invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
This invention relates to an attachment which is designed to be applied to the ordinary curtain or shade fixtures now in common use, and is intended to obviate the slipping of the cord on the pulley, which is attached to the upper roller, and also to prevent the cord from slipping off from said pulley.
The invention consists in applying a pressure-roller to the pulley of the upper roller, substantially as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby the desired end is attained.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represents a roller, which is provided with a corrugated or milled periphery, and has its axis a fitted in a small frame B,which is formed of two pendent bars 6 b,conuected at their upper ends to a cross-bar c. The bars I) b 0 may all be cast in one piece, and to the horizontal or cross bar 0 there is attached vertically a flat spring 01, the upper end of which is secured to abracket C, or the spring may, if preferred, be attached directly to the frame without the intervention of a bracket, as represented in Fig. 4, or in any other suitable manner. The spring d is attached to the bracket 0 in an oblique position, and the roller A, therefore, has an oblique position relatively with the bracket. The bracket 0 is screwed to the upper part of the window-frame directly over or in other suitable position in relation to the pulley, which is attached to one end of the upper roller of the curtain or shade. This pulley is shown in red in the figures.
The roller A presses on the cord (shown in red) which passes over the pulley of the curtain or shade roller and effectually prevents the cord from slipping on said pulley when the shade-roller is turned, and also-prevents the cord from slipping off from said pulley.
The pressure-roller may be set either par allel with the pulley. or obliquely thereto.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a curtainfixture or pressure-roller constructed as and for the purpose set forth.
, T. C. RICHARDS.
