Be it known that I, Dnsinn PUTZEYS, of the city of Brussels, Belgium, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fire-Extinguishers for Chimneys, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent of the following countries, Viz: Belgium February 28, 1885, No. 68,032, March 25, No. 68, 300, and April 22, No.

68,600; France March 21, 1885, No. 167,798;

Germany April 2, 1885, No. 32,670; Great Britain March 27, 1885, No. 3,945; Austria- Hungary April 24, 1885, No. 15,759; Spain May 3, 1885, No. 5,072, and Italy May 5, 1885, No. 18,324,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

The figure shows in side elevation my improved extinguisher suspended from a crossbar in a chimney over an apertured plate, the plate and chimney being in section.

A represents the sphere suspended within the chimney by a chain, which is connected at its upper end to a hook secured to a cross bar embedded at its ends in the masonry. Bands 1) are passed around the ball in line with its vertical and horizontal axes, respectively, and to one band is affixed an eye, which is in turn connected to the lower end of the chain.

Below the sphere the plate T,havinga funnelshaped opening, is secured to the masonry, and as the walls of the opening incline downward and inward, the sphere will be centered therein upon the severance of the bands a by the flame or heat in the chimney.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The fire-extinguisher herein shown and described, the same consisting in the plate T, having the funnel'shaped opening, the crossbar above said plate, the sphere provided with crossed bands adapted to be severed, one of the bands being connected to the cross-bar, substantially as set forth.

2. In a fire-extinguisher for chimneys, the sphere A having fusiblebands encircling it in planes at right angles to each other, and an attaching-eye on one band, substantially as set forth.

The foregoing specification of my improvementin fire-extinguishers for chimneys signed by me this 26th day of March, 1885.
