To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. ELAM, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Americus, in the county of Sumter and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TicketCases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a perspective View of a portion of a ticket-case embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a sectional elevation on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 3 a detail View in perspective of one of the ticket boxes or receptacles.

The present invention has special reference to that class of ticket-cases employed in railroad-ticket offices, although it may be adapted to other uses, as found desirable, and is designed as an improvement on my patent of December 1, 1885, No. 331,485.

The invention consists in providing the case with a crank-rod pivotallyconnected to the sides of the case, and extending across the same to operate in connection with catches upon the rear end of the boxes or receptacles for the tickets.

The invention further consists inproviding the front end of the box or receptacle with a spring-guard to prevent the front ticket from falling out, instead of employing a supplemental spring-bottom, as in my former patent, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings,A designates the case, of any desirable form and construction, having transverse inclined partitions B, .upon which rest the ticket boxes or receptacles C. The partitions B have transverse slots ,which receive the depending lips b, lugs, or other suitable projections upon the under side of the boxes or receptacles to hold the same in position on the partitions.

The ticket boxes or receptacles C may be of any suitable construction, and are provided near their rear ends with suitable catches, c, which operate in connection with a crank-rod, D, to prevent them from being accidentally drawn entirely out of the case A. The crankrod D extends horizontally across the case A, and is suitably pivoted to the sides thereof,

and in its normal position the rod, by its own gravity, will rest near to and just above the row of boxes or receptacles O, and is so bent to form cranks at its ends that it will resist any forward pull or pressure when in said normal position, but will yield to any upward pressure. Vhen the box or receptacle C is pulled forward, the catch c will engage with the rod 6o D, and prevent the box or receptacle from coming entirely out of the case A. If preferred, the catch c may have an upward inclination in a direction toward the front end of the box or receptacle C, so that when the latter is entirely out of the case A, and is to be replaced therein, the catch, as it comes in contact with the rod D, the incline thereof will act as a cam and of itself elevate said rod, so

as to admit of the box or receptacle passing 7o under the rod toits position, thereby removing the necessity of elevating the rod with the ngersV before a box or receptacle could beinserted in the case. When one of the boxes or receptacles C is in position and it is desired to 7 5 draw it forward, the front end thereof is elevated until the lip b is out of the slot ci, after which the box or receptacle .can be drawn forward, the catch c engaging with the rod D and preventing it from coming entire-ly out of 8o the case. In this position should it be found desirable to withdraw the box or receptacle from the case, it is pushed back a sufficient distance to disengage the catch from the rod, and the latter raised or elevated by the fingers sufficiently to allow the catch to pass under it, and the box or receptacle taken out.

To prevent the front one of the tickets from falling out of the box or receptacle C, I provide a spring-guard, e, of sufficient length to 9o extend over and against the front edge of the bottoni ofthe box or receptacle, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3.

The spring-guard e is preferably connected to one of the flanges d, and, if desired, two spring-guards may be used, one connected to each of the flanges.

The retaining-flanges d and the sides of the ticket boxes or receptacles may be made of one and the same piece of metal, where the metal roo of which the boxes or receptacles are constructed possesses sufficient elasticity to admit of the flanges acting in the capacity and serving the purpose of the spring-guard e. In this case the flanges d are slit a sufcient distance I able catches operating in connection with said 2o along the angle which they make with the sides of the box or receptacle to allow the flange to act as a spring, whose tendency is downward, thus forming a flange which serves the purpose of both flange and guard to keep the front one of the tickets from falling out, a marble, f, pressing the tickets against the flanges.

The boxes or receptacles may be of any suitable construction and size,to correspond with the width of the partitions and the space between them. f

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a ticket-case, the combination, .with a bent transverse pivoted rod, of one or more ticket boxes or receptacles provided with suitl rods, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. Aticket box or receptacle having an open front end and retaining-dangers thereon, and a spring guard or guards depending from the flanges and adapted to bear against thebottom of said box or receptacle to close the space between the lower end of the flanges and bottom of the box or receptacle, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
