(Cl. 4-1) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A decorative cover for a toilet bowl having a top opening defined by a marginal edge, the cover including two pieces (1) a first elongated flexible band having adhesive material on its opposite sides, and (2) a unit consisting of a second elongated flexible band having adhesive material only on one side thereof and carrying a skirt for covering the toilet bowl when the skirt and band unit is applied to the edge of the toilet bowl. In use, the first band is adhered to the marginal edge of the toilet bowl, and then the adhesive side of the second band is applied to the outer side of the first band to anchor the skirt to the toilet bowl with the skirt extending downwardly to a point adjacent a floor in order to provide a decorative cover over the toilet bowl.

This invention relates to an ornamental cover for toilet commodes or toilet bowls and has for its purpose the provision of a skirt or other enclosing apparatus that is connected to the marginal edge of the commode, to flare outwardly and to fully cover and ornament the bowl portion of the commode.

The device comprises a pleated skirt that is attached to the marginal edge of the commode to hang downwardly with the skirt being connected to the marginal edge of the commode by adhesive strips, and a tie device that extends around the rear end of the commode. Toilet commodes in numerous positions are viewable from a living area and the purpose of the device is to hide the commode and to give it an ornamental appearance.

Novel features of construction and operation of the device will be more clearly apparent during the course of the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein has been illustrated a preferred form of the device and wherein like characters of reference are employed to denote like parts throughout the several figures.

FIGURE 3 is a perspective view illustrating the device attached to the usual floor mounted commode, and

FIGURE 4 is a view similar to FIGURE 3 showing the initial steps in mounting the skirt upon the floor mounted commode.

In the drawings, numeral 5 indicates a conventional floor mounted commode and, as illustrated in FIGURES 3 and 4, the floor mounted commode is provided with an upper marginal edge 6 and a rearwardly extending portion that is normally connected to plumbing apparatus, such as the toilet flush tank 8. The device is applicable to both the wall mounted commode 9, as illustrated in FIGURES 2 and 3, each having the marginal edge 6.

Adapted to be connected around the marginal edge 6 of the commode, is a pleated skirt 10, that is connected at its upper edge to a woven band 11, the inner side of the band being provided with adhesive material 12. The marginal edge 6 of the commode is first provided with an adhesive band 13 that is pressed or otherwise engaged with the marginal edge 6 prior to the installation of the skirt Patented Nov. 5, 1968 2, 10. The band 13 is provided with adhesive upon its inner and outer sides, to adhere to the edge 6 of the commode and to also adhere to the adhesive inner face of the band 11. The band 11 at its free ends is provided with tie cords 14 that may be extended around the extension of the commode and tied in position, as illustrated in FIGURE 3.

In the use of the device, assuming that the skirt 10 is to be forced upon the floor mounted commode, as illustrated in FIGURES 3 and 4, the band 13 is engaged around the marginal edge 6 and pressed into position, firmly anchoring the band 13 to the surface of the margin 6. With the band 13 in position, the band 11 and the outwardly flaring skirt 10 is then engaged with the outer adhesive face of the band 13 and firmly pressed into position, firmly anchoring the skirt to the commode and the band 11 may be further anchored to the commode by tying the cords 14 around the extension 7 of the commode. The skirt 10 is formed of a multiplicity of pleats and flares outwardly to the floor level. The adhesive faces of the bands =11 and 13 are initially protected by covering of paper or the like and this paper is of course removed before the bands are fixed to the commode. It will be apparent from the foregoing that a very novel and ornamental cover has been provided for toilet'commodes and, is quickly and easily attached to conventional commodes by merely pressing the

13 and 11 to cause them to adhere to the marginal edge of commode, hiding the commode 5 from view and giving an ornamental appearance to the device. The skirt 10 is quickly and easily applied and is fixedly held around the marginal edge of the commode against displacement. The skirt 10 may be formed of any desirable material, such as plastic and that is easily cleaned. In the commodes illustrated in FIG- URES 1 and 2, the cords 14 are omitted and the

13 and 11 engage around the marginal edges 6 and obviously will be fully held in position by the adhesive connections. The device is cheap to manufacture, may be quickly and easily removed for cleaning and provides a very desirable cover for what is ordinarily an objectionable view of a commode and adds to the ornamentation of the usual bathroom and toilet facility.

It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction shown, but that changes are contemplated as readily fall within the spirit of the invention as shall be determined by the scope of the subjoined claims.

I claim:

1. A decorative cover for a toilet bowl having a top opening defined by a marginal edge, said cover comprising a first elongated flexible band having two opposite sides and having adhesive material on both of said sides, said first hand being adapted to be applied to said marginal edge with one side thereof adhering to said edge and the other side thereof available to receive the remainder of said cover, a second elongated flexible band having two opposite sides and having adhesive material on only one of said sides, and a flexible skirt carried by said second hand with the skirt extending downwardly to a point adjacent a floor when the second band and skirt are applied to said edge, said bands and said skirt having free ends providing an open back for said cover, and said second band being adapted to have said one side thereof pressed onto said other side of said first band after said first band has been applied to said edge for firmly anchoring said skirt to said toilet bowl to provide a decorative cover over said toilet bowl.

2. The decorative cover as claimed in claim 1 in which said second band has end portions and tie cords afiixed to said end portions to be tied around a portion of said toilet bowl.
