2 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures SANITARY TOILET SEAT COVER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Toilet seat covers have been available for a number of years. Such seat covers generally comprise a single sheet of paper of a size to cover the toilet seat, and are provided with a cutout central portion detachably secured at one end to the outer portion so that when the toilet seat cover is in place and the detachable portion severed, the central portion hangs down into the bowl to aid in drawing the seat cover down the drain when the toilet is flushed. Toilet seat covers as heretofore provided, were of 'very light weight paper so that they couldbe easily flushed without danger of clogging the drain, but possessing the inherent drawback of being readily displaceable from the desired position covering the toilet seat before the user could assume a seated position. It is obvious, of course, that when the sanitary toilet seat covers of the prior art shifted position before the user was seated, the primary purpose and function of the seat cover was defeated.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the present invention, there is provided a sanitary toilet seat cover which is provided with an opening in the front portion, i.e., that part of the cover to overlie the front portion of the toilet seat, and the upper side of such front portion carries an adhesivebearing patch, which in turn covers the opening. Additionally, the toilet seat cover is folded to provide a compact package with the folds including a center fold extending from front to rear of the cover and bisecting the opening.
Because of this construction, the folded toilet seat cover may be unfolded with the portions of the adhesive exposed through the opening (which were in faceto-face contact when the cover was folded) being separable so as to provide an adhesive area which can be pressed against the front portion of the toilet seat, thereby to secure the cover in position.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. I is an elevational view of a normal toilet showing the seat cover of the present invention in place;
FIG. 2 is a plan view showing the seat cover of the present invention in completely folded condition;
FIG. 3 is a view like FIG. 2 showing the seat cover in partially unfolded condition;
FIG. 4 is a top elevational view showing the cover in position on a toilet;
FIG. 5 is a vertical sectional view along the line 5-5 of FIG. d; and
FIG. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the underside of the front portion of the toilet seat cover.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a normal toilet 110 which includes a tank 11, a bowl 12, a lid 13, and a toilet seat 14. In the particular embodiment shown, the toilet seat 14 forms a complete annulus, although in many public toilets the front portion is broken away for sanitary reasons.
Usable in conjunction with the toilet seat 14 is the seat toilet seat cover 15 of the present invention comprising form an outer annular portion 17 having a size and shape to overlie the seat 14. Also defined by cuts in the sheet 16 is an inner central portion 18 detachably secured at its front edge 19 to the inner edge of the annulus and when in place hangs down into the bowl from its rear edge 20.
To provide a package small enough for carrying or dispensing, the sheet 16 is folded along the fold lines 21, 22 and 23, and along a center fold line 24. When completely folded, a compact package such as shown in FIG. 2 is provided. As indicated in the drawings, the center fold line 24 extends from the front portion 25 of the annulus to the rear portion 26 thereof.
Located in the front portion 24 of the sheet 16 there is provided an opening-27 spaced from the edge 28 of the sheet and bisected by the center fold 24. On the upper surface of the sheet there is provided a patch 28 which covers the opening and carries on one face a pressure responsive adhesive. The adhesive adheres to the upper surface of the sheet 16 in the area surrounding the opening 27 and preferably the patch possesses the same soluble or disintegrable in water characteristics of the sheet 16 so that neither the sheet nor the patch will cause any problems in sewer or septic systems.
As can be seen from FIG. 6, when the patch 28 is in place over the opening 27, a portion 29 of the pressure responsive adhesive is exposed through the opening.
The opening 27 has a diameter of from one-eighth in. to one-fourth in. and preferably a diameter of threeeighths in.
In the construction described, it will be clear that when the sheet is in the folded condition of FIG. 2, the exposed portion 29 of the adhesive is bisected by the center fold line 24 and the portions are in face-to-face contact. Thus, when the sheet is completely unfolded, the adhesive faces pull apart or separate so that the portion 29 may be pressed against the upper side of the toilet seat (or the upper side of the bowl if the seat is broken in front) to secure the toilet seat cover in position. The advantages of the construction described are believed to be obvious, i.e., the seat cover is anchored in position so that it will not shift after being placed in position and the patch 28 subjected to downward finger pressure to cause the exposed adhesive-bearing patch 29 to adhere to the toilet. As the exposed adhesive portions are in face-to-face contact when the cover is in folded condition, it may be easily unfolded for use, a situation which would not exist if the adhesive-bearing portion 29 was in contact with the thin paper of the cover. By locating the opening 27 on the center fold line, this objective is achieved. Additionally, the size of the opening is important in that it must be large enough to make a sufficiently large adhesive-bearing portion available to adhere to the toilet, and yet not so large as to prevent the contacting adhesive-bearing faces when in folded condition from being separated when the center fold is unfolded.
It will, of course, be obvious that the patch 28 may be given a distinctive appearance such as by a bright color or even a floral pattern to make it readily observable.
As previously noted, the adhesive carried by the patch 28 is provided to adhere to the. forward portion of the toilet, i.e., the toilet seat in those fixtures having a complete seat and to the forward upper surface of the bowl in those instances where the toilet seat is broken away at the front portion, i.e., is not continuous.
I claim:
1. A sanitary toilet seat cover comprising, a single sheet of paper or the like cut to form an outer annular portion of a size and shape to overlie a toilet seat, said sheet having an inner central portion detachably secured at one end to an inner edge of the annulus, said sheet being folded to provide at least a center fold extending from the front portion of the annulus to the rear portion thereof, an opening in said front portion or annulus bisected by said center fold, said opening having a diameter of from one-eighth to one-fourth inch, and an adhesive-bearing patch adhesively secured to the upper surface of said front portion and covering the opening whereby pressure on said patch will cause the adhesive exposed through said opening to adhere to the front portion of the toilet to secure the seat cover in place.
2. A sanitary toilet seat cover comprising, a single sheet of paper or the like cut to form an outer annular portion of a size and shape to overlie a toilet seat, said sheet having an inner central portion detachably secured at one end to an inner edge of the annulus, said sheet being folded to provide at least a center fold extending from the front portion of the annulus to the rear portion thereof, an opening in said front portion or annulus bisected by said center fold, said opening having a diameter of approximately three-eighths inch, and an adhesive-bearing patch adhesively secured to the upper surface of said front portion and covering the opening, said patch being of material soluble or disintegrable in water, whereby pressure on said patch will cause the adhesive exposed through said opening to adhere to the front portion of the toilet to secure the seat cover in place.
