J. HABITZREITER NEWSPAPER FILE. No. 340,305. Patented ApInZO, 1886.
.2 WITNESSES J UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS I-IABITZREITER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NEWSPAPER-FILE.
EEZPEGIP'IGATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,305, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed June 5, 1885. Serial No. 167,720.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULIUS HABITZREITER, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Newspaper Files, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved newspaper-holder for conveniently filing and handling newspapers; and the invention consists of a newspaper-holder the main bar or stock of which is made of two parallel wires, that are attached'to a handle and retained by metallic clasps, and of a spring-wire that is hinged to lugs of the end clasp and locked at its lower hook -shaped end between a fixed stud of the clasp next to the handle and a movable cheek operated by a fastening-screw passing through the fixed cheek.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure represents a front elevation, Fig. 2 a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a rear elevation, of my improved newspaper-holder; and Figs. 4 and 5 are horizontal sections, respectively on lines 00 av, Fig. 1, and y y, Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the stock or main bar of my improved newspaper-holder, which bar is formed of two stout wires, on a, which are retained sidewise of each other by means of cast-metal clasps a a c of which preferably three are arranged that unite the wires a a, respectively, at the ends and at an intermediate point, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The elasps a a a extend across the back and over the sides of the wires 0, but'not across the front of the same, so as to leave a space for the clamping spring-wire B, which is hinged by an eye at its outer end to lugs b b of the outer clasp, a and which serves to hold the newspaper in the groove formed between the wires a a. The lower end of the spring-wire B is bent into semicircular or hook shape and rigidly clamped between a fixed (No model.)
cheek, d, made integral with the lowermost clasp, a, which is located next to the handle C, and a movable cheek, d, that is applied by a thumb-screw, d", to the bent end of the spring-wire B, so as to belocked into position close to the main bar A when the lower end is pressed by the thumb between the fixed and movable. cheeks d (1.
By loosening the thumb-screw d the spring wire B is released, so that it springs away from the main barA and permits thereby the ready insertion or removal of the newspaper. The
clasp a at the outer end of the main bar A, is
further provided with a sidewise-projecting hook, f, that is cast integral therewith, so that the holder can be conveniently suspended from a hook or other suitable point of support on the wall.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a main bar formed of two wires and metallic retaining-clasps, a clampingspringwire hinged to the outermost clasp, and a clamping device, substantially as described, for locking or releasing the inner end of the spring-wire to or from the lower JULIUS HABITZ REITER.
