ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A shaving head for a dry shaver in which a frame has a movable cutter arranged under a cutter foil supported in the frame and a spring bar is supported over a part of its length by bearing means and locking members on the frame adapted to lock the frame under a spring force.
The invention relates to shaving heads for dry shavers with a cutter adapted to move to and fro under a cutter foil, in which the cutter foil is arranged in a frame pivoted on a fixed part of the shaving head relatively to the cutter, and the frame is adapted to be locked in the working position of cutter and cutter foil. A shaving head construction of this type makes it possible to lift the cutter foil away from the cutter without difiiculty, so that the clippings collecting in the cutter head can be removed conveniently and without risk of damage to the cutter foil.
In a known shaving head construction of this kind, the cutter foil frame is adapted to pivot around a rigid shaft, and resilient locking members are provided on the side of the cutter foil frame opposite this shaft, and on the side of the fixed part of the shaving head, which engage each other when the cutter foil frame is swung to. Such resilient locking members are liable to the risk of undesirable deformation and are also subject to wear and material fatigue, so that when these parts are made with a view to saving weight and space for reasons of handiness of the device, perfect locking is no longer guaranteed after a long period of use.
The present invention aims to overcome these disadvantages and, by employing stronger and simpler components throughout, to permit spring locking of the pivoted cutter foil frame. According to the present invention the cutter foil frame is pivoted on flexible parts of a spring bar fastened to the fixed part of the shaving head, parallel to a side of the frame, preferably a longitudinal side, and the locking members for the frame are made practically rigid, While the parts of the spring bar supporting the frame are flexible to an extent corresponding to the locking and unlocking travel respectively of these locking members. The spring bar is preferably fixed in its central part to a stationary part of the shaving head, and the shaving head frame is pivoted to the two flexible end parts of the spring bar.
Other features of the invention will hereinafter be described with reference to an embodiment illustrated in perspective in the drawing.
A curved cutter foil 2 is arranged in a frame designated as a whole as 1. The frame 1 is constituted by two end portions 3, interconnected by two longitudinal rods 4, on which the cutting foil 2 is fixed, preferably in a detachassignor to Firma' able manner. The fixed shaving head portion to be fastened to the apparatus housing (not shown) is also designed as a frame 5. A curved cutter 6, with its curvature adapted to the cutter foil 2, is arranged and guided to move to and fro, as is merely indicated in the drawing.
A spring bar 7 is arranged as pivotal axis for the frame 1 parallel to one longitudinal side of the frame 5, and is inserted via two apertures 8 in the end portions 3 of the frame 1. The centre of the spring bar 7 is fixed in this longitudinal portion of the shaving head frame 5. A groove 10 is sunk in this longitudinal portion 9, which groove so widens in cross sections towards the ends 11 of the groove that the end parts of the spring bar 7 have free play for bending relatively to the middle of the frame 5. In the middle zone 12 the cross-section of the groove is reduced to such an extent that the spring bar is held closely and can be pushed in only from the side, i.e., it cannot slide out upwards.
Hook-shaped elements 13 are provided as locking members on the two end portions 3, and cooperate with abutments 14 on the sides of the shaving head frame 5. In order to lock the frame 1 in the operating position in which the cutter foil 2 rests upon the cutter 6, it is merely necessary to depress the opened frame 1 until the hooks 13 engage with the abutments 14. When the hooks 13 grip around the abutments 14, the spring bar 7 is slightly stressed. In order to release the locking, all that is needed is a slight pressure upon the end portions 3 toward the hooks 13.
If the arrangement is such that the spring bar 7 is held closely in the centre part 12 of the groove 10, it is unnecessary to secure the spring ends in the apertures 8 of the end portions 3. The swivelling frame 1 can then easily be entirely separated from the fixed part 5 of the cutter head, by the spring bar 7 being pushed or pulled lengthwise out of its groove.
Of course, the invention is not restricted to the details of the embodiment described. The arrangement of the hooks and the abutments on the pivoted frame 1 and the fixed frame 5 of the shaving head respectively may simply be transposed. It is also possible to design the arrangement so that, in order to release the locking, a pull is exerted on the end portions of the pivoted frame transversely to the spring axis, instead of a push. Other kinds of locking may also be used, provided that they react only to pressure or tension transverse to the spring bar. It is also possible to fix both ends of the spring bar and to pivot the frame on the centre of the spring bar, and in this case the centre of the bar is flexible.
I claim:
1. A shaving head for a dry-shaver comprising a frame, a movable cutter arranged under a cutter foil supported by the frame pivotally connected to the shaving head, a spring bar supported over a part of its length only by bearing means connected rigidly to the shaving head with parts of said bar distant from said bearing means and fastened to the frame, substantially rigid locking members on the frame, said bar extending parallel to the side of the frame and the frame being adapted to be locked under a spring force exerted by the bar in the operating position of the cutter and the cutter foil by the locking members which are substantially rigid, while the parts of the spring bar extending beyond the bearing means are flexible to an extent corresponding to the locking and unlocking travel, respectively, of said substantially rigid locking members.
2. A shaving head according to claim 1, in which the spring bar is fixed in its central part to a stationary part of the shaving head, and engages with its free flexible ends in apertures in the cutter-foil frame.
3. A shaving head according to claim 1, in which the spring bar is held closely in a groove formed in the stationary part of the shaving head, which groove widens towards both ends, and thus permits bending of the end parts of the spring bar.
4. A shaving head according to claim 1, in which book shaped elements are provided as locking members on end portions of the cutter-foil frame or on the stationary shaving head part, which elements cooperate with abutments.
