NECKTlE-FASTENER.

Be it known that I, ANDRns CIFRE, of Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie Fasteners or Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.

This improved fastener for neckties, and which is to be attached to the tie or to a support or shield in turn attached to the tie, is made of metal wire capable of being bent and doubled without breaking, and of retaining its so bent or doubled shape, and it (the fastener) has two arms or legs, which at one end form an acute angle, with an intervening attaching -loop continuous therewith, and at their other end is continued in an attachingprong, which prong and loop are for the attachment of the fastener to a necktie or supporter therefor, and each arm or leg at their said angle has a bend at right angles and of a shape or width to make in each arm a rest for said arm upon the neckband of the shirt when the arms of the fastener are placed over and inslde of said neekband, and for the necktie and supporter, if the tie is attached to a supporter, to be located on the outer side of said neckband, and in position for the necktie or the supporter, if the necktie is attached to one, to be placed under the turned-down portions of the collar.

In the drawings this improved fastener for neckties is illustrated.

In the drawings, A is my improved fastener for the neckties. This fastener A is made of metal wire capable of being bent and doubled without breaking, and of retaining its so bent or doubled shape.

The fastener', with all its parts and shaped as above described, is made of one piece of metal wire, and is produced by giving the wire the construction and shape stated.

A fastener of the construction described is attached by its intermediate loop, c, and end attaching prongs, h, to a suitably shaped supporter-as, for instance, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3-and then this supporter secured to the necktie, or directly to the necktie.

To attach the fastener, first put its intermediate loop, cthat is, the loop at the angle of the arms or legs a oil-*through a slit, k, of the supporter or necktie, as the case may be, and from the back to the front thereof, and

then similarly put the end prong, h, of each arm or leg through the separate slits Z, suit-- ably located therefor, and bend and clinch them against the front side of the supporter or tie, as the ease may be, which completes the attachment of the fastener A, and the arms or legs a a2 of the fastener are at the back, and the rest or bend d thereof toward the upper edge, m, of the supporter or necktie. It is of course understood that in so attaching the fastener its location on the supporter or necktie is to be such as to secure the proper placing of the supporter or tie in relation to the collar upon the neck of the wearer, and to have the vertical central line of the fastener in line with the collar-button.

The fastener, secured as described, to be used is placed by its two arms a a? back of the neckband of the shirt and straddling the shank n of the collar-button p, and between its inner head, q, and the neckband y, and ata rest by its bends d upon the upper edge of the neekband with the supporter or necktie in front of the neckband of the shirt and of the ends of the collar buttoned to said collar-button, and then, as well known, the supporter or necktie is properly adjusted to position in ICO relation to the collar, completing the securing of the necktie by said fastener to the neck of the wearer, and one which is most perfect, reliable, and rigid.

The fastener A, herein described, is shown in the drawings as made in two forms, varying in detail-as, for instance, in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 the wire is shown as doubled upon itself to make each arm or leg a a2, and also as doubled at the bend d of each arm, and thence continued or extended in another leg or arm, i', of the same general direction and length as the arm of which it and its bend make a double, and this extension 1' terminates in the end attaching-prong, h, described.

In Fig. 4 the Wire making an arm is shown of a single thickness, and the end attaching prong, h, extends directly from its outer free end. The doubling of the wire in the length of the arms or legs a a2 of the fastener and the extending thereof described and shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3, however, is the most preferable of the two forms shown and described, for the reason that it secures increased rigidity and stiffness to the arms of the fastener, and, cao-operating with the intermediate attachingloop, c, and which is at the angle of said arms,

each having an end prong, h, and both forming an acute angle, b, and each thence bent and continued at right angle, making a portion, d, and a loop, c, the portions dto act as restsV for the fastener upon the upper edge of the collar 4o and neckbands,'and otherwise to secure the placing of both legs inside of the'neckband and straddling the shank of the collar-button and the loop c andprongs h, to serve as means of attaching the fastener" to the necktie, all as 45 described, for the purpose specified.
