W. O. CAMPBELL.
SEGTIONAL KITCHEN SAFE. N0. 335,014. Patented Jan. 26, 1886.
N PETERS. F'hcln-Lilhcgrgphcr. Washi nnnnnn C.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFicE,
WILLIAM C. CAMPBELL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SECTIONAL KITCHEN-SAFE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 335,014, dated January 26, 1886.
Application filed January 26, 1885. Serial No. 154,045. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. CAMPBELL, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sectional Kitchen-Safes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a: perspective view of my im proved safe disconnected, the shelves being omitted. Fig. 2 is a-detail section illustrating the manner in which the parts are held together; and Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating the support to prevent vertical movement of the side pieces when the safe 'is put together.
My invention relates to an improved cornerjoint for knocked-down or sectional kitchensafes; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
As heretofore constructed, the sides have been interlocked with the front and back by means of cleats or shelf-supports having dovetailed tenons fitting in corresponding recesses or notches.
111 my improvementthe extreme edges of the sides, the front, and the back are formed with vertical continuous interlocking half-dovetail tongues, and are secured or braced by the shelves resting on the ordinary form of cleats or supports.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the back, B the front, 0 the ends, and D the shelves, of the safe, the sides being provided with inside cleats, I, upon which the shelves rest when the safe is put together.
The corner pieces or posts of the front, back, and sides have continuous interlocking halfdovetail tongues A, B, and 0, respectively, preferably formed by V-grooves or rabbets, as shown.
The tongues fit together, as shown in Fig. 2, and when the shelves are put in place the sides will beheld out, and the four parts of the safe (the front, back, and sides) locked to gether in a manner that will be readily understood from the drawings, the form or shape of the tongues preventing the front and back from moving away from the sides as long as the sides are held out by the shelves.
Such a safe can be cheaply produced, can be quickly set up and taken to pieces, and when set up is strong and durable.
Small blocks J are inserted in the cornerposts of the front or back, or both, to prevent the downward movement of the sides when the safe is put together. (See Fig. 3.)
The tongues of the front, back, and sides could be locked together by other means than the shelves, if desired.
I claim as my invention 1. In a sectional kitchensafe, the combination of the front, back, and sides provided with continuous interlocking halfdovetail tongues, and means by which the parts are secured together, substantially asset forth.
2. In a sectional kitchen-safe, the combination of the front, back, and sides having continuous interlocking half dovetail tongues formed by V-grooves, and means by which the parts are secured together, substantially as set forth.
3. In a sectional kitchen-safe, the combination of the front, back, sides, and shelves, the front, back, and sides having continuous interlocking halfdovetail tongues, and the shelves holding the sides out to lock the tongues together, substantially as set forth.
4. In a sectional kitchen-safe,the combination of the front, back, sides, cleats secured to the sides, shelves, and blocks J, the front, back, and sides having half-dovetail tongues locked together by the shelves resting on the cleats, and the blocks acting to prevent the vertical movement of the sides when the safe is put together, substantially as set forth.
WILLIAM G. CAMPBELL.
