. To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that T, ANTHONY VANDER- VELD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sectional Store Furniture; ,and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which is appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to sectional furniture adapted to be used especially in equipping andfurnishing stores. In furniture of this character a plurality of sections are placed in superposed relation to any desired height, the sections bein of various designs to contain varied articles of merchandise.

It is customary to place these vertical series of sections end to end along the walls of" stores or in any other place where they may be conveniently located and to space the adjacent ends a distance apart, facilitating the ready removal of any section from any of the vertical series without disturbing sections of other vertical series which may be associated therewith. The space between the spaced apart ends of the sections is covered and the ends of the sections are tied together in substantially rigid relation by means of a post or 'pilaster extending from the top-to the bottom of the vertical series of sections. My invention is concerned with the provision of new and improved means 1 and constructions to be used in covering the space between the ends of sections, in tying the sections together and in alining the sections so as to make the appearance and have the effect of a solid built construction, at the same time permitting the ready removal of the post or pilaster and the interchanging of sections in the furniture equipment. The

invention is disclosed in im preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, in which;

- In the embodiment of the invention shown a plurality of sections adapted to contain various articles of merchandise are indicated at 1 as located in superposed relation to form a vertical series. The lowermost section rests on a base 2 and the uppermost section carries a top or cornice 3. A plurality of these vertical series of sections are placed end to end with the ends 4 of the sections is used having attached thereto on its rear side a channel member 6, the flanges 7 of which extend rearwardly into the space between the adjacent ends of the sections and lie adjacent said ends. This post and channel are of a length equal to the distance from the floor to the top of the cornice 3.

The ends of each section are provided with openings 8 which are adapted to aline with similar openings 9 formed in the flanges 7 of the said channel and each end 4 of each section is. provided with a slot 10 on the inner side thereof as shown. U-shaped tie members 11 may-be inserted through the openings 8 and 9, the legsthereof passing over adjacent portions of the flanges 7 and the 'end members 4, thereby tying said flanges and ends of sections rigidly together. The slot 10 is of sufiicient depth that the legs of the tie members 11 on the inner side of the sections will be entirely concealed therein and will not ofler any obstruction to drawers or other similar articles of retaining members which may be located in the sections.

I claim 1. In combination, a plurality of independent vertical series of superposed sections located in horizontal relationl with the ends of adjacent sections spaced apart, a post or pilaster lying at the front of and covering the space between the adjacent ends of sections, said post or pilaster including a channel having flanges lying adjacent the section ends, and tie members extending through said flanges and section ends for securing them together, said tie members being accessible from within the sections and readily removable to permit disengagement of the sections and post or pilaster.

2. In combination, a plurality of. independent series of superposed sections located end to end in horizontal relation with the ends of the sections spaced apart, a post or pilaster located at the front of and covering the space between the adjacent ends of the sections, said post or pilaster including a channel member having-rearwardly extend- I described.

In combination, a plurality of inde pendent vertical series of superposed sections located end to end in horizontal relation with the ends of adjacent sections spaced a short distance apart, a post or pilaster located at the front of and covering the space between the adjacent ends of the sections,

said post or pilaster comprised of a channel member having a strip secured to the web thereof of greater width than the web, the flanges of the channel extending rearwardly into the space between the ends of .the sections, and removable U-shaped tie members extending through said flanges and ends of the sections with the legs of the tie members engaging against the inner sides of the flanges and ends of the sections, said legs engaging against the inner sides of the section ends lying in slots therein but accessible for ready removal, substantially as described.
