UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT LORENZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLAMP FOR STRINGS, 84C.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 334,711, dated January 19,1886.
Application filed August13, 1855. Serial No. 171.260.
(No model.)
T0 (ZZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT LORENZ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clampsfor Strings, &c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved clamp for strings, cords, and ropes; and it consists of a socket-piece having two longr tudinal perforations, throngh which the string is passed in opposite directions, the end of the string beingretained in one of the holes by a suitable key.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved clamp for strings, &c. Fig. 2 1s a vertical transverse section on line as as, Fig. 1. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are respectively a front. view, a front view with the. cover detached, and a vertical transverse section on line 3 3/, Fig. 4, of a modified form of my clamp.
' Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a socket-piece of any suitable metal, which is provided with two longitudinal holes, a a, that are arranged parallel to or converging toward each other. The string, cord, or rope B is passed first through one hole a, and then over the end of the socket-piece A and back in opposite direction through the second hole a. The end of the string B is secured to the first hole a by a wedgekey, I), whereby the rigid clamping of the string is obtained.
A more ornamental form of the clamp is shown in Figs. 3, 4, and .5, in which the fast ening-key is arranged in a chamber, e, of the socket-piece A, which recess is closed by the detachable cover A. The end of the string B is attached by a wedge-key, b, in. said chamber to the socket-piece A, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The string B is passed through holes at one end of the socket-piece A and through a guide-hole at the opposite end of the same, as shown in Fig. 4.
Havingthus described myinvention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, in a cord-clamping device, of a stock provided with two perforations side by side and substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a cord-clamping device, of a stock having a chamber and pro vided with two perforations for receiving the cord, and a wedgeshaped locking-pin'iuserted in one of said perforations through said chamber, substantially as described.
3. The combination, in a cord-clamping device, of a stock having a chamber and a sliding cover therefor, and provided with two perforations for receiving the cord, and a wedge-shaped locking-pin inserted in one of said perforations through said chamber, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention Ihave signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
