To aZZ' whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES KLIPPERT, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Turn-Tables, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawlugs.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved turn-table for preparing microscopic slides,by means of which the slips of glass upon which objects are to be mounted may be more readily and quickly centered, the invention being fully described in the following specification, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of the turn-table with a portion of the armrest, showing a slip of glass centered upon the same, said slip being shown in dotted position as when being laid without care upon the table before being centered; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same, viewed asindicated by arrow in Fig. 1, drawn to furth'er show the combination of the parts, parts being centrally and vertically sectioned; and Fig. 3, a view of the nether or reverse side of the turn-table, showing the spring and other parts, parts being broken away and other parts shown in two positions by full and dotted lines.
Referring to the parts, A is the rest for the arm of the operator; D, the support for the table; B, the table, and F an elongated plate or double arm reaching diametrically across the lower side of the table. The table is formed with a stem or shaft, f, and the plate F is formed with a sleeve, 9, to fit said shaft, the shaft at its lower end being provided with a threaded part, k, below the end of the sleeve,
which threaded part is fitted by a milled thumb-nut, h, by means of which the plate F and table are held together. The thumb-nut when screwed to place bears against a shoulder of the stem of the table, so as to allow the sleeve to turn upon said stem as with a journal fit.
The under side of the table is preferably made with the supporting-arm D, enters a longitudinal cavity in the stemf of the table, upon the point of which pin the table with the plate F rotates.

b are two circular slots concentric with the table, on opposite sides of and equally distant from the center thereof, said slots extending vertically through the plate of the table, their distance apart being about equal to the length of the slip of glass. The plate F is provided near its extreme ends with vertical pins 0, which reach up through these respective slots, as shown, extending above the upper surface of the table about equal with the rigid pins a, or sufficient to hold the glass slips. A flat curved spring, Z, is inserted rigidly in a slit in the edge of the plate F, reaching radially out to the inner surface of the flange n, having its outer end arranged to bear against a projection or rest, e, rigid with the'table. This spring as arranged will tend to prevent the plate being turned in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 3, and should the plate by any means be turned toward the position shown in dotted lines the spring will tend to carry it back to its original position, (shown in full lines,) in which the pins 0 rest against the ends of the slots b. (Shown by dotted circles in Fig. l.) The slots being slightly farther apart than the length of the glass, it will be seen that if the plate or double arm F be turned to bring the pins 0 to the position shown by dotted circles the glass will freely drop between them, and if then the plate be left to the control of the spring the pins will move along the respective slots, press upon the ends of the glass, and carry said ends in opposite directions till its edges meet the respective rigid pins a, as shown, in which position the center of the glass will coincide with the center of the table.
It is necessary in mounting the objects upon the glass slips to have them as nearly as possibleat the centers of the latter.
In using this improved table no care is required to center the glass slips other than to place them between the four pins above mentioned.
To eom'enicntly turn the plate by hand against the action of the spring, or, in other words, to open the holders to receive the slip of glass, I add a rigid stud, d, to the surface of the-table which, with the pin 0 nearest the stud, may be pressed between the thumb and finger of the left hand of the operator as a glass slip is being inserted.

Vhat I claim as my invention is l. The turn-table B, formed with slots or openings 1) b, and provided with fixed pins a a, in combination with the plate or arms F,
provided with pins 0 c, reaching up through the openings 1) b, said plate F having its bearings beneath the table, substantially as shown.
2. The combination of the turntable 13, formed with a rest or projection. e, and the plate F, provided with a spring, I, secured thereto and bearing upon the rest 0, substantially as shown.
3. The table B, provided with a fixed stud, (Z, and formed with slots Z) I), in combination with the movable plate or arms'F, provided with pins 0 0, held to reach through the slots 1) b and extend above the table substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
