SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,620, dated December 1, 1885.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES S. DICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crete, in the county of Saline and State of Nebraska,
have invented certain new and useful In1- provements in Hip-Strap Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of part of harness,showing hip-strap loop and protector in perspective. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of hipstrap protector with a portion of strap. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the protector. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken through the protector where the broken line x is shown in Fig. 2.
This invention has relation to improvements in trace-loops, or devices for receiving traces so as to keep them from direct contact with the harness of an animal; and it consists in the construction, combination, and adaptation of devices, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates a hip-strap having at its upper end a ring by which the same may be attached by any suitable means to the back-strap of an ordinary harness. This strap is provided at its opposite end with a buckle, as shown, 5 whereby a loop may be formed, which I provide with a slide band or box, E, between the said buckle and a metallic wear-l0op, D. This loop D is of U shape, having the free ends of its vertical branches provided with lateral o loops b, for the passage of the loop branches of the hip strap A. The said wear-loop is also provided with marginal external flanges, which serve as guards for the said loop of the hip-strap. Thus it will be seen that the wearloop may be secured to the hipstrap and adjusted thereon with relation to the height of an animal by manipulation of the buckle, the
slide-loop E serving to keep the said wearloop D set in the loop of the strap.
Having described my invention,what I claim The combination of the hipstrap having a ring at its upper end to be attached to a harness, and provided at its opposite end with a buckle to form a loop, the box or slide loop on the straploop, and the metallic wear-loop D, open at its upper end, having the external marginal flanges, and the lateral loops at its opposite ends for the passage of the hipstrap, which supports the said wearloop, substantially as specified.
