(No Model.)
Patented Nov. 17, 1885.
INVENTOR 5% ATTORNEYS.
BYJla/ww NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
ISAAC HUSSEY, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOB TO HIMSELF AND FRANK W. HUSSEY, OF SAME PLACE.
WASH-BOARD.
SFECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,785, dated November 17, 1885.
Application filed June 2, 1885. Serial No. 167,406. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, IsAAo HUssEY, of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Wash-Board, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fullyv described and claimed.`
The invention consists in the combination, with a board having ribs or beads, of tufts held in the grooves between the ribsor beads.
Reference is to be had to the acccompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved brush. Fig. 2 is a detail cross-sectional View of part of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view of part of the same.
The board A is provided on its upper surface with the usual ribs or beads, B, between which grooves C are formed, and in the bottoms of the said grooves I bore holes E, for receiving tufts T of tampico, rice-root, broomstraw, or any other suitable material, the heads of the tufts being flush with the heads of the beads or ribs B. The tufts are held in piace by wires F, passed through the inner ends of the tufts and placed in grooves G in the under side of the board. The back of the board is then provided with one or more coats of paint. 'Ihe tufts are arrangedin the grooves C to break joints.
The tops of the tufts wear off with the tops of the beads or ribs C, and they increase the rubbing properties of the board Without injuring the clothes.
The brush can be used as an ordinary straight wash-board, or it can be curved or warped for use as a rubber or rubbing-surface in a washing-machine. When used as an ordinary wash-board,it is mounted in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with awash-board having ribs or beads formed on its surface and grooves between said ribs or beads, of brushes or tufts held in the grooves between the ribs formed on the face of the board, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with a wash-board having ribs or beads formed on its surface, of tufts or brushes held in the grooves between the ribs by wires, the wires being in grooves in the back of the Wash-board, substantially as herein shown and described.
ISAAC HUSSEY.
