Beit known that I, JOHN H. JONES, a citi-A 5 Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved Wash-board.
The obj ect of the invention is to provide a wash-board with a rubbing surface which will permit the water to run freely therefrom and carry the dirt washed from the clothes with it, thereby preventing the dirt from settling on the board.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a front elevation 0f this improved Wash-board; and Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated, the frame 1 of this board is of ordinary construction, the invention residing in the rubbing surface or body of the board. This surface 2 is composed of any suitable material, made in the form of a flat plate or sheet having bulb-like projections 3 preferably arranged in rows thereon in staggered relation to each other. These projections 3 have corrugations 4 formed on their surfaces to facilitate the cleansing of the clothes. These corrugations are curved downwardly to shed water and to permit the dirt to be washed back into the tub, leaving the rubbing surface of the board always clean.
I claim as my invention A washboard having a rubbing surface provided with bulb-like projections having corrugations extending transversely across the upper and lower ends thereof, and with corrugations formed thereon between said top and bottom corrugations with their inner ends spaced apart, the outer ends thereof and of said top and bottom corrugations being curved downwardly, to shed water and carry with it dirt washed from the clothes.
