UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
AMANDUS GETZSGHMANN, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
SHAFT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,209, dated October 13, 1885.
Application filed February 9, 1834. Renewed August 26, 1885. Serial No. 175,525.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMANDUS Gnrzson- MANN, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Shaft-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved shaft-holder, which is so constructed that the shafts cannot bind on the same, and which shaftholder will not Wear off as rapidly as the shaft holders or loops usually used.
The invention consists in a shaft-holder formed of a top leather part and a curved metal rod held on the same, on which rod a series of anti-friction rollers or thimbles are mounted.
The invention also consists in parts and details, as will be fully set forth and described hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face View of my improved shaft-holder with the shaft in section. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the socket-plate for holding the end of the curved rod. Fig. 4 is acrosssectional view of one of the anti-friction thimbles and the curved rod.
The loop or holder is formed of an upper U shaped or semicircular upper part,A,made of leather, and of a lower part, B, shaped in a like manner, and formed of a metal rod, preferably iron. One end of the rod B is flattened and riveted to one end of the leather part A, and the other end of the rod B is passed into a socket, 0, formed on a plate, D, riveted to the opposite end of the part A, which socket is provided with a screw, E, for holding the end of the rod B in the socket.
On the rod B a series of thimbles, F, are loosely mounted, each thimble being formed of a metal ring, G, surrounded by a rubber ring, H.
The loop is suspended from the backstrap, J, on which the part A is held, and the bellyband K is held by a ring on the rod B.
(No model.)
If the thimbles are worn out, the' end of the curved rod B is removed from the socket O,
the thimbles are removed and replaced by others. The thimbles support the shaft and permit it to move freely in the loop or shaftholder without binding.
Any other suitable anti-friction rings or rollers can be used in place of the thimbles shown and described.
As the shafts move forward and backward in the holders the saddle cannot rub the horses back sore.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A shaft-holder formed of an upper leather part, A, and a lower metallic part, B, consisting of a curved rod, on which rod antifriction thimbles or rollers are mounted, the said rod being secured at its ends to the ends of the leather part and forming the lower section of the loop, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a shaft-holder, the combination, with the leather top part, A. of the curved metallic rod B,having one end riveted to the leather part and the other end held in a socket on the leather part, and of anti-friction rollers or thimbles on the curved rod, the said rod forming the lower section of the loop, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a shaft-holder, the combination, with the upper leather part, A, of the curved rod AMANDUS GETZSCHMANN.
WVitnesses:
G. B. NELsoN, JOHN AHMANSON.
