CARTRIDGE-POUCH.
SPECIFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,700. dated October 6, 1885.
Application filed February 17, 1885.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES MCCLURE, of Champaign, in the county of Champaign and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Cartridge-Fouch, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved pouch or holder for cartridges, and from which the cartridges can easily be removed singly for use.
The invention consists in the combination, with a pouch provided with tubes, of mouthpieces secured on the ends of the tubes and having their lowerends beveled, and of springs in the mouth-pieces for preventing the cartridges from sliding out ol' the tubes.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a frontview of my improved cartridge pouch or holder, parts being broken out and others in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same on the line xx, Fig. l.
The pouch or holder A is provided with a series of vertical tubes, B, each provided at the lower end with a metal mouth-piece or piece of tubing, C, the bottom edges of which are beveled allin the same direction. The mouthpieces C are held in the lower ends of the tubes B by means of rivets, metal rings or bands, or in any other suitable manner. Each mouthpiece has a longitudinal slot, D, in its longest side, and at the lower end of each slot one end of a spring-strip, E, is secured to the mouth-piece, the upper part of the spring being provided with a bend, F, extending outward, and on the upper end of each spring a catch, G, is formed which rests against the outside of the mouth-piece at the upper end The pouch is formed of twolayersot canvas, leather, rubber fabric, or other material, sewed together by vertical rows of stitches, whereby the tubes B are formed.
The cartridges H are pushed through the mouth-pieces C into the tubes, the butt or cap ends of the cartridges being at the bottom, and one cartridge resting on the other. The
Serial No. 156,131. (No model.)
lowest cartridge rests upon the upper end of the spring E. To remove or withdraw a cartridge the upper end of the springE is pressed in the direction of the arrow c', thus permit ting the cartridge to drop ashort distance.
When the bottom head, J, of the cartridge has passed the upper end of the spring, the spring is released, and its upper part, comes in contact with the shell and the cartridge slides down the spring. The spring then snaps inward and under the cartridge next above the one that has been removed. A finger is placed under the cartridge being removed to prevent its dropping to the ground.
The ends ofthe mouth-pieces are beveled to permit operating the spring E and holding the cartridge. The pouch is secured to a strap or belt,or to the hunting-coat on the front or back. The pouch may be used to hold shot or ball cartridges.
One of the special advantages ot' the pouch is, that the heads of the shells are downwardi n the pouch, thus preventing the wads from loosening.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The cartridge holder or pouch comprising the series of vertical tubes, with their lower ends disposed in step form, and the series 0f moutlrpieces having lower beveled ends and connected to the lower ends of said tubes, said mouth-pieces having cartridgeholding springs, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. The co1nbination,with the pouch A, provided with tubes B, of the mouth-pieces C, having beveled lower ends and slots D, and the springs E in the mouth-pieces, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination, u i h the pouch A, having tubes B, of the mouth-pieces C, having beveled ends and slots D, and springs E, having bends F and catches G on their upper ends, substantially as herein shown and dcscribed.
CHABLES MOCLURE.
