JOHN BLOMSTROM, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY W. PRICE, OF SAME PLACE.
GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,263, dated July 28, 1885.
Application filed March 31, 1885.
To all whom, it may concern: v
Be it known that I, JOHN BLOMSTROM, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and State of Illinois, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gloves and mittens produced from knit, woven, or felt fabrics, and having their palms and edge portions faced with leather or other suitable material. This class of gloves or mittens being more generally worn by persons performing manual labor, the tendency of the back (being of yielding material) is to unduly expand at the wrist portion. My object, therefore, is to provide means which will prevent this undue expansion of the wrist portion of the fabric on the back between the edge facings; and the invention consists in connecting the wrist end portions of the edge facings on the back by means of a tuck-band having a detachable connection, or instead thereof an elastic tuck may be employed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the back of a glove with my improvement in place thereon; and Fig. 2 is also a representation of the back of a glove, showing the application of an elastic tuck'band.
The glove represented in the drawings, consisting of the knit, woven, or felt fabric A, and the palm and edge facings B, which in this instance extend over the finger-backs and embrace the thumb, are substantially the same as gloves now in use and to be found in the trade.
The tuck mechanism, consisting of the rectangular loop O, loop'hook D, tuck-bands E and F, is substantially the same as the tuckband secured by Patent No. 311,101, January 20, 1885, to Henry W. Price, upon my application for improvement in glove-fastenings. This tuck mechanism is connected to the wrist end portions of the edge facings on the back of the glove, overspanning the knit, woven, or other fabric forming the back thereof between the edge facings. The connection of the respective portions E and F of the (No model.)
tuck-bands by means of the rectangular loop and the loop-hook are such as to be readily connected and disconnected by means of the portion F, having its free end fitted in tab form. When the hook-clasps of the tuckband are disconnected, the elastic fabric back of the glove or mitten between the edge facings will yield to permit the free passage of the glove onto the hand, and when in place thereon the connection of the hook-clasps by means of the tuck-band will prevent the eX- pansion of the fabric composing the back of the glove and hold it in place on the hand.
Instead of the hook-clasp and tuck-bands shown, a tuck-band having a button-connection or other known detachable fastening may be employed to connect the edge facings and overlap the fabric forming the back between the edge facings. or an elastic fabric, as shown at H in Fig. 2, may be employed, or any other known form of tuck, detachable or fixed, elastic or non-elastic, may be employed and still be within the scope of my invention, when employed to connect the facings and overlapping the fabric forming the back of the glove or mitten.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with the facings of. glove or mitten, and with the fabric more expansible than the facings forming the back thereof between the edges of the facing s, of a tuck-band connecting the edges of the facings and spanning the fabric forming the back of the glove or mitten, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the facings of a glox e or mitten, and with the fabric more expansible than the facings forming the back thereof between the edges of the facings, of a tuck connecting the edges of the facings and spanning the fabric forming the back, said tuck having a detachable connection, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN BLOMSTROM.
