CHARLES F. CROOKETT, OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK.
PACKAGE FOR WHITEWAS H.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,583, dated July 21, 1885.
Application filed May 16, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. ORooKE'rT, of Mount Vernon, county of Westchester, New York, have invented a new and Improved Package for Whitewash, &c., of which the following is full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a box or package for putting up whitewash, glue, and coloring-matter for the market, so that a person buying a package of whitewash will at the same time and in the same package be provided with a suitable quantity of glue to mix with the whitewash, and also with a suitable quantity of coloring-matter to give the whitewash a tint, if desired.
The invention consists in the construction of package, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is abroken perspective view of my new package. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same, the cover being removed; and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the package, taken on the line :0 00, Fig. 2.
A represents a wooden box of any suitable size provided with cover or lid B. Upon its inner surface the box is covered with a coating, a, composed of beeswax and resin, applied while hot to render the box waterproof and to prevent lime from attacking the box. The cover B is also coated upon its under surface with a coating, 1), of the same material and for a like'purpose. At two of the upper corners of the box A are formed the corner compartments, d 6, formed by the triangular beveled edged corner pieces, f 9, set diagonally in the corners of the box and secured, as shown clearly in the drawings. The upper edges of the corner pieces, f 9, stand flush with the upper edges of the body of the box A, so that the one cover, B, when put in place, will close tightly the compartments (1 e.
- Slacked lime moistened with water to the con-' sistency of a paste will be filled into the body of the box A, and a small quantity of glue will be placed in corner compartment, d, and asmall' quantity of coloring pigment or other matter suitable for tinting whitewash will be placed in corner compartment, 6. Then the cover B will be put in place and nailed or otherwise fastened, which will close the box and the corner compartments and keep their contents entirely separate, so that when opened by a purchaser he is provided not only with whitewash, but with a suitable quantity of glue and coloring to mix with the whitewash, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, the box or package A, provided with triangular corner pieces to form compartments at the upper corners of the box, substantially as and for the purposes described.
CHARLES F. OROOKETT.
