' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS A. DE PLANQUE, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
PLAQUE AND PANEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,751, dated June 3, 1884.
Application filed March 15, 1884. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
. Be it known that I, LOUIS A. DE PLANQUE, of Jersey city, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plaques and Panels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide certain new and useful improvements'in the manufacture of plaques, panels, &c., on which paintings, drawings, 85c, are to be produced.
The invention consists in a plaque or panel made of leather-board which is shaped and provided with a coating of glue and whiting, and is then provided with one or more coats of paint. F
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whic hsimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 are face views of different shapes of my improved plaque. Fig. 4
is a cross-sectional view of one of the same.
The plaques or panels A are made of artificial leather known as leather-board, and being a pasteboard formed of scraps of leather. The sheets of leather board are soaked in warm water, and are then pressed and molded to the desired shape, either circular, square,
oblong, oval, 800., and are made convex, flat, 85c.
The shaped plaque or panel, when dry, is provided with a coating of whiting and glue, and is then provided on its front surface with a coating of oil-color or other suitable pigment.
The plaques can be made very easily. They are very smooth and take the color readily, have a good finish, and are not very expensive. They retain their shape, do not warp, and are much lighter than the plaques and panels made from ordinary pasteboard covered with fabric or paper.
- Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A plaque consisting of a piece of leatherboard pressed into suitable shape, coated with a mixture of glue and whiting, and then provided with a coat of paint, substantially as herein shown and described.
