provement in Sample-Package Wrappers; and- I declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, 'which form a part of this specification.

My invention consists in the combination of devices and appliances hereinafter specified, and more particularly pointed out in the u claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of an envelope, illustrating my invention, showing how the upper edges are folded. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing the folded end in place under the loop. Fig. 3 is a plan View of a box embodying the same invention. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the same, showing the cover in place and the flaps or bands in position for folding. Fig. 5 is a perspective view illustrating the same invention applied to a parcel. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the same partially unfolded.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved fastening for envelopes, boxes, parcels and analogous packages, as well as the envelopes, boxes, parcel-wrappers, Ste., themselves, embodying said means of fastening the same.

I will now lproceed to describe my invention as applied to an envelope, as illustrated in Figs. l and 2, in which- A represents the envelope proper, constructed with an extended flap, A', the two faces of the envelope preferably being extended for this purpose, and the envelope being open upon its extended end for filling.

B is a loop, of any suitable material, secured upon one face of the envelope. I do not limit myself to the construction and method of attaching this loop, but it may conveniently be done by engaging the two endsof a strip of metal or other suitable material under a strip of paper or other fabric, B, and pasting said fabric upon the envelope. The loop may, however, be attached in any other manner preferred.

Vhen it is desired'to fasten the envelope, the corners of the extended flap are folded, as illustrated'in Fig. l, making a pointed end, which is then brought down and inserted under the loop, as shown in Fig. 2. It is obvious that when the corners are thus folded together and secured under the loop there is no liability whatever of the disengagement of the flap, while the contents of the envelope are securely prevented from escaping there-` As illustrated in Figs. 8 and 4, C is a box with its cover C. D is the flap orband, which may be secured to one end of the bottom of the box, one end of the band being extended beyond the bottom of the box, as indicated at d, the opposite end being extended, as shown at d. Aloop, E, issecured, also, upon the band.

When it is desired to fasten the box after the cover is located in place, the end d', which is preferably made longer then the end d, is folded over the latter, as shown in Fig. 4, when the corners are folded, as illustrated in the envelope, and indicated in Fig. 4 in dotted lines, when the pointed end may be secured under the loop, in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2. These bands may be addressedso that the address will come upon the cover. They may be manufactured and put uponthe market separate from the boxes themselves, the loop being secured thereon, as shown in Fig.

4, and may be gummed for ready attachment to the boxes when used.

I would have it understood that my inven` tion contemplates both the construction-of the band itself as a separate article of manufacture and its combination with the boxes or wrapper. In the case of its employment with a box it will be desirable for certain purposes to secure one or more flaps, c, upon the inner sides of the box,to be folded over and upon the con-v tents, before the cover is in place. So, also,"for certain purposes it may be desired to locate a metallic box, F, within the outer box.

As illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, Gr is a parcel-wrapper, which may be constructed of any desired form. I prefer to construct it with longitudinal folding edges g and g', to be folded over the contents'of the wrapper, so as to protect the edges of the same.

H is a flap or band similar in construction to the iiap already described as applied to the box shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the band being provided, as already described, with a loop,

5 H', one end of the band being extended beyond the wrapper, as shown at 7L, the band itself being of sufficient length to pass around the wrapper, leaving` an extended end, h', which may be folded over the end h when the 1o corners are folded over, as already illustrated and described, the point being then i-nserted under the loop. It will be seen that the essential feature of the invention is the same in all these illustrations.

15 I would have it understood that in the following claims I use the word wrapper. in its broadest sense, asY including, as above described, an envelope, parcel-wrapper, boX, and other analogous devices.

2o The advantage of the employment of aloop is evident in that it enables the user to readily and directly engage the end of the folded flap when he wishes to disengage it.

What I claim is- 25 l. A sample-packet provided with a nietallic loop secured thereto by a fabric engaging the ends of the loop upon the packet, said packet having extended end flaps, the construction being such that the fiaps may lie upon each other and the corners thereof fold- 3o ed inward under the loop, substantially as described.

2. The fasteningband, provided with a loop near one end, the construction being such that the band may be attached to a package passed 3 5 round the same, its ends folded together and inserted under the loop7 substantially as described.

3. The herein -described samplepackage wrapping, consisting of a box with its cover, a 4o wrapping-band, and a loop secured thereto, said band adapted to be passed round the box, its ends folded together, and inserted under the loop, substantially as described.
