\VILLIAM H. FOX, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF TEN-SIXTEENTHS TO PHILIP E. GREEN AND ROBERT W. GREEN, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
DEVICE FOR FILING WAY-BlLLS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,274, dated July 14, 1885.
' Application filed November 19, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. FOX, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Devices for Filing Way-Bills, 8nd, of which the following is a full, clear, and
. exact description, reference being bad to the V tended for railroad purposes; and my invention consistsin features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims. Referring to the drawings, A represents a suitable cover, made fast to a wood or other stiff back-piece, B.
0 represents strips of paper secured endwise to the back-piece, preferably by being passed through slots D in the back, as shown.
Ihave shown three sets of strips and three series of slots in the back; but there may be two, or more than three. The end series of strips may be held in the slots and the back strengthened by tin or other strips, I. (See Fig. 2.) The strips 0 may be held in place until used by being secured to one of the covers by McGill or other fastenings, J, (see Fig. 3,) and as they are used they are torn off, for which purpose they may be perforated, as shown at L.
The way-bills, 850., are pasted to the strips and may be attached to one or both sides, as desired, being attached to the inner sides of the strips after they (the strips) are torn off and turned back. Either narrow bills, as
leaves are used, the savlng 1n expense more especially being quite an item in a large num ber of books.
The cover A could be dispensed with,
though I much prefer to use it. Iclaim as my invention 1. In a device for filing way-bills, &c., the.
combination of the back-piece and the sets of strips 0, connected endwise thereto, and operating substantially as set forth.
2. In a device for filing way-bills, 850., the
combination of the cover, bacl -pieee, and
strips, the strips being secured to the backpiece at'their inner ends and connected to i gether at their outer ends.
3. In a device for filing waysbills, &c., the combination of the cover, back-piece, and strips secured to the back-piece and to the cover, substantially asand for the purpose set forth.
4. In a device for filing way-loills, 850., the combination of the cover, back-piece having series of slots, strips secured to the backpiece by passing through said slots, and fast enings to secure the ends of the strips to the cover, the strips being perforated at L, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM H. FOX.
In presence of Gno. H. KNIGHT, SAML KNIGHT.
