and a corner of the associated tissue turned back. Fig. E2 is a similar' view of the book with the auxiliary cover folded over a portion of the pad. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of a double sheet and its tissue, and Fig. 4 is an edge view of the gripping edge of the carbon sheet. l
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a pad, which is composed of a plurality of folded sheets and a plurality of sheets 2, which are preferably made of tissue paper, or other similar material. Each of the folded sheets comprises the sections 3 and 4, which fold one upon the other to form a shorter upwardly extending or top portion, the top section 3 constituting the original or the one on which the writing is done,
To all whom it may concern Be. it known that I, GUsTAvn MEronT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and have invented a certain new and useful anifold Sales-Book; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear.l and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to manifolding salesbooks of the type adapted for the producing of two copies of an original entry. In the use of books of this character it is customary which is torn from the pad and from section 3 and delivered to the customer. The junction of the parts 3 and 4 and the junction of the part 4 with its stub 4 are preferably perforated or weakened in a suitable manner to enable the sheet to be more readily torn at such points, as shown at 5 and 6, respectively.
One of the thin sheets 2 1s disposed between the sections 3, 4 of each folded sheet and the outer ends of the thin sheets 2 and the stubs 4 of the folded sheets are stapled or otherwise secured together in pad form, as shown.
The pad 1 is secured to the inner side of one of a pair of flexibly connected covers 7, preferably in a manner to enable it to be easily disengaged therefrom,
form the book, one half constituting Vthe original to 4loe retained by the cashier and the other half constituting a copy thereof to be delivered to the customer, and also a tissue sheet, which corresponds in number to the numbers appearing on the halves of the fol ed sheet and forms the copy of an entry hich is to be retained in the salesmans book. In the checking up of the cashiers and sa-lesmans copies it is evident on like copies correspond. With the present forms of sales-books of this character it is an easy matter to miss a tissue copy or to interpose two instead of one tissue copy between the halves of the double sheet, thus in 'either case preventing a proper correas is common spondence of the numbers of the original in sales-books of this character. A flap and copies. or separator 8, of preferably thin stiff material is flexibly attached to the outer edge of the cover 7 to which the. pad is secured and adapted to fold over upon the section 3 of the folded sheet next to be used to separate it from the used tissue sheets 2 to prevent an offsetting of carbon from the last tissue sheet 2 upon the next sheet section 3, when the book is closed. A further very important purpose of the, separator 8 is to facilitate a rapid opening of the book to the desiredposition therein without thumbing `each of the used tissue sheetsJfor such purpose. It will be noted that the lower edge of the sub-cover 8 projects beyond the lower end of the pad 1 to permit a gripping of the same when the book is closed The object of my invention is the provi-y sion of an improved book of this character, which will reduce to a minimum the liability of missing a tissue copy when making an entryl and which is also simple in its construction and operation and less expensive to manufacture than the books of this nature heretofore used, thus enhancing the practicability and commercial value thereof.
The invention is fully described in the bodient thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a salesbook embodying my invention opened up, with the original of a folded sheet unfolded and the otherl section constituting the'copy and section 4 of a set from a side edge thereupon the section Stof` a folded vsection 4 and tissue sheet of the next set Q Locarno of carbon depositsfrom the under side of the preceding tissue sheet 2 upon the face of the folded sheet section 3 against which it would otherwise rest, and also t-o facilitate an opening of the back to the desired place.
It is apparent that I have very materially simplified the construction of salesbooks of this character, as only one pad is and to facilitate an opening of such cover and a consequent throwing back of the used tissue sheets, as is apparent.
A double-transfer sheet 9 of carbon or other transfer paper is placed between the lower section 4 of a folded sheet and the tissue sheet 2 which is disposed between the sections of such folded sheet. ITpon writing on the section 3, such writing is dupli cated upon the top surface of the sections 4 and the under surface of-the t-issue sheet 2 by the transfer sheet. rlhe transfensheet is intended to be inserted between a sheet 2 being secured together by a single securing means; andalso that the binding of a tissue sheet between the sections Tof each folded sheet simplilies the use of the book, which insures the making `of entries -upon the proper tissue and folded sheets. j
I wish it understood that'my invention is not limited to any specific construction or arrangement of the parts except in so far as such limitations are specified in the claim.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l In a sales book, a back, a cover hingedly connected to one side of the back, a separator hingedly connected to thev opposite side of the back, -a pad comprising a plurality of sheets folded to form a long lower and a short upper section, a tissue sheet between the sections of the sheets having one end located adjacent to the rfr ee end of the lower section, said just mentioned sheets being folded transversely of their-.length and being transversely weakened vadjacent to the said end of the tissue sheet, the separator being movable to engage the uppermost short section ofthe folded sheets to separate said section from the used tissue sheets all of "the first mentioned sheets and all of the 'tissue sheets being connected together, at the free ends ofthe lower sections ofthe lirst mentioned sheets and the adjacent ends of the tissue sheets to form a pad.
In testimony whereof, I have here-unto signed my nameV to this specification in'the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
1 GUSTAVE MEFOR-T. Witnesses of, and to facilitate a gripping of a side edge portion of the transfer sheet during a shifting of the position thereof and alsov to prevent an osetting ofthe carbon on such sheet upon the fingers, one side edge portion thereof is faced on both sides with strips 10 of a stid nature, such, for instance, as cardboard. -v
Before' entering an order or other data sheet the transfer sheet 9 is inserted between the lower section 4 of such folded sheet and the associated tissue sheet 2, thus causing a facsimile of the writing r upon# the section 3 to be impressed upon the upper surface of the attached section 4 and the under surface of the tissue sheet 2. This being done the salesman or person using the book turns the section?, of the folded sheet back to the position shown in Fig. l and then pulls lateryally upon such sheet to vtear kthe same from its stub along the weakened line 6, as is apparent, after which the original section 3 is retained by the cashier 'and the duplicate section 4 is delivered to the customer. The salesman then turns the tissue sheet 2 upon which the duplicate record has'just been made back upon the other used tissue sheets and places the transfer sheet 9 between the ready for thev noting of a subsequent order upon such set. .Before closing the book the separator 8 -is foldedover upon the folded sheet next to be used to space lthe. used tissue C.
