UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NICHOLAS JENKINS, OE VATEEBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO HOLMES, BOOTH St HAYDENS, OF SAME PLACE.
STAND-LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,476, dated June 23, 1885.
Application filed March 2, 18E5.
o all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS JENKINS, of Waterbury, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Stand'Lamps, ofwhich the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to lamp-reservoirs made of metal. y
The object of my improvement is to provide i@ a simple and ornamental means whereby pendants may be supported around the reservoirs.
The improvement consists in a new article of manufacture composing the following elements, to wit: A metal reservoir having a cylindric middle portion and an inwardly-ex tending lower portion, a band ot' metal secured to the cylindric portion, extending below the cylindric portion around the inwardly-extending lower portion, and provided with perfo- 2O rations below the cylindric portion for the reception of the hooks or analogous fastenings of pendants.
The accompanying drawing is a partly sectional side view of a lamp embodying my improvement.
A designates the pedestal of the lamp, which may be of any desirable construction.
B designates an oil-reservoir, made of metal. It issupported bythe pedestal A, and between 3o it and the pedestal are arranged a drip-cup,
C, and a perforated air-distributer, D.
E designates the burner-tube, wh ich, as here shown, is of the Argand type, although its form is immaterial so far as the present improvement is concerned. It is provided with wick-adjusting mechanism a, with an air-distributer, b, and deflectors c d. The reservoir B has at the middle an eXternally-cylindric portion, e. Below this cylindric portion e the 4o reservoir extends or recedes inwardly.
(No model.)
G designates a band of metal arranged around the cylindric portion e of the reservoir and secured thereto by solder or otherwise. It may be ornamented to suit the taste. Its lower edge is shown as scalloped. Its contig` uration may, however, be varied. Close to thelower edge are perforations f. These perforations are below the cylindric portion e of the reservoir and opposite the inwardly-ex- O tending lower portion. 5o
By combining with a reservoir having a cylindric portion and an inwardlyextending lower portion a strip depending below'the cylindrc portion ot' the reservoir, and providing said strip with perforations below the cy- 53 lindrc portion of the reservoir, I provide a space between the perforated portion of the strip and the reservoir which will accommodate hooks or other fastenings of pendants without entailing the contact thereof with the reservoir; hence provision for a free adjustmeut of the pendants is afforded.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A new article of manufacture, 'comprising 65 the following elements, to wit: a metal reservoir having an external]y-cylindric portion and an inwardly extending or receding lower portion, and a strip secured to the cylindric portion extending below the eylindric portion and provided below the cylindric portion and t opposite the inwardly-extending portion of the reservoir with perforations for receiving hooks or fastenings of pendants.
NICHOLAS JENKINS.
