CHRISTOPHER G. WARREN, OF MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI.
BALE-TIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,420, dated June 16, 1885.
Application filed January 8, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER O. WAR- BEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meridian, in the county of Lauderdale and State of Mississippi, have invented certain, new and useful Improvements in Bale-Ties, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to certain improvements in bale-ties, and is designed to produce a simple and cheap device, easily operated and effective. The tie or buckle is so formed as to tighten the band when inserted within the buckle, facilitate the operation, and firmly hold the said band in place.
In describing the device which accomplishes the above results reference is had to the annexed drawing, showing a perspective view of the tie.
The tie or buckle proper consists of a single piece of metal. It is composed of two sides, A and B, respectively, joined at one end by a cross-piece, O. The sideA has a short an gleextension, D, which serves to prevent the band from slipping off said side. The side B has an extension, E, in line with it, said ex? tension curving from its outer extremity inward till coincident with the inner edge of the extension D. At this point, the curved extension being wider than the side B, a shout der, F, is formed, preventing the band from slipping off the said side.
In operationthe band has its loose end bent on itself, so as to reach the lower end of the curve on the extension E; then, by forcing it toward the opening of the tie, the said band is tightened, and, slipping into the interior of the said tie, is securely held in the tightened position.
What I claim is- 1. A bale-band tie or buckle having one side extended beyond the general contour of the said tie, and curved from its outer edge toward an opening in the same, where the extension is shouldered, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A bale tie or buckle consisting of two parallel sides, connected at one end by a crosspiece, one side having an an gle-extension and the other a direct extension, which is curved from its outer edge toward an opening in the tie, where it is shouldered, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTOPHER G. WARREN.
