PLOW-CLEVIS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,966, dated June 16, 1885.

Application filed December 1, 1884.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OZIA A. ESSIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Olevises; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which-- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line 00 m, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a front end view. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on line y 3 Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detached view of a portion of the frame of the clevis, showing the parts separated.

The present invention has relation to the general improvement ofplow-clevises; and its nature consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter particularly described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the front end of a plow-beam, which may be of the form shown, or it may he of any other desired form or style.

To the front or forward end of the beam A are attached the different parts of the clevis, substantially as shown in the drawings.

The screw B is substantially of the form shown, and is held in proper position by means of the collars a a and the frame 0. The top or upper end of the screw B is provided with the head I), which may be of the form shown, and is for the purpose of turning said screw.

The frame 0 is made in two pieces or halves, each of said pieces or halves being provided with the arms or projections D and D, which are substantially of the form shown. The arms or projections D are provided with the transverse lips d d, which overlap each other, and the bolt E passes through said lips, as

seen in Fig. 2, thereby securely holding the two pieces or halves together with the assistance of the bolt F.

On the screw B is located the nut G, which is substantially of the form shown in the drawings, and is provided with the arms or projections H, which pass through the slotsI and engage the recesses J in the clevis K, as shown in the drawings. The clevis K is substantially of the form shown in the drawings, and is securely held to the beam A by means of the clamping-bolt L. The clevis K passes over the frame 0, as seen in the drawings, thereby assisting in holding said frame in proper position.

It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to adjust the clevis K at any point desired within the limits of the slots I, and at the same time securely hold said clevis K at any and every point. I am also enabled to adjust said clevis to any desired fraction of an inch. I

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of the frame 0, provided with the transverse lips (Z d,of the nut G, provided with the arms H,of the screw B, and the clevis K, provided with the recesses J, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.

2. The frame 0, formed in two pieces or halves and provided with the slots I, in combination with the screw B and the clevis K, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
