UNITED STATES ATENT Tries,
JOHN M. HUBBARD, OF LAKE VILLAGE, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
I ADVERTI SER AND CARD-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 1Y0. 319,720, dated June 9, 1885.
Application filed October 22, 1884. (No model) To aZZ.whm it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN M. HUBBARD, of Lake Village, in the county of Belknap and Sta e of New Hampshire, have invented a 5 new and Improved Advertiser and Card- Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new andimproved holder for business-cards,
1o advertising-cards of all kinds, and separate letters forming advertisements, 860., which cards can readily be placed on the holder or removed from the same.
The invention consists of a board divided into fields or spaces by transverse ridges, and on the side edges of which board two pins are secured at each field, on which pins cords are held which pass over the fields and hold cards in place between the ridges.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved advertiser and card-holder. Fig. 2 is an edge view of part of the same. Fig. 3 is a crosssect-ional view of part of the same.
On the face of the board A a series of horizontal strips,B, are secured, which form ridges, and whereby a series of horizontal spaces, 0, are formed on the said board.
From each edge of the board A two headed pins,D,project at the end of each space or field C-one pin at the top and the other at the 5 bottom. 1
Endless elastic cords-or bands E are passed over the pins D, so that the said cords or bands extend over the faces of the fields or spaces at the top and bottom.
If desired, the said bands or cords may be secured permanently on the pins on one edge of the board.
The cards F, which may be of any desired length and on which one or more letters may be produced, are of such height that they fit 5 in between two strips B.
The elastic cords E are removed from the pins D on one edge of the board, the cards are placed on the board and between two strips B, and the cords stretched over the cards and passed over the pins D again, whereby the cords or bands are drawn taut over the cards and hold them in place. The cards can be placed and secured on the holder very easily and can be removed very readily.
The holder is provided with means for hanging it.
The cords E only pass over the upper and lower parts of the cards, and do not pass over any of the letters.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a board having transverse ridges secured to or formed there- 65 on, of elastic cords held at their opposite ends to the board, and extending across the same between and independent of the ridges, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a board divided into a series of fields or spaces formed by transverse ridges on the face of the board, of two pins on the side edges of the board at the end of each field, and of elastic bands or cords held on the pins and extending over the fields, substantially as herein shown and described.
JOHN M; HUBBARD.
