B. SWEITZER. I CURTAIN STEETGHEB. v No.1319,345. Patented June 2, 1885.
WITNEssEs: INVEN'I'OR 9% W 4 1 to each other.
EUGENE SWEITZER, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
CU RTAlN- STRETCHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,345, dated June 2, 1885.
Application filed May 1'7, 1884.
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE SWEITZER, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain -Stretchers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of my improved curtain-stretcher.
The present invention relates to an improvement in curtain-stretchers, and it consists of pieces framed together at right angles A piece sliding in a groove within the shorter side is made adjustable by sliding on arms, and pins are provided on the upper and lower surfaces. The outer end has a frame provided inwardly with pins, and also made adjustable for differentsized cur tains to be stretched thereon, all of which will now be fully set forth in detail.
In the drawing, A is one of the side pieces, andB the end piece, of myimproved stretcher, framed together at right angles to each other, and provided with a screw to hold them in position. The upper and lower surfaces of these pieces have small pins D secured therein at suitable intervals. The inner side of the end piece, B, is provided with a longitudinal slot or groove, E, and the outer side of the piece A has small openings F at suitable intervals.
A short distance inwardly from the end piece, B, I provide'a parallel piece, G, framed into and secured to the side piece, A, by means of a screw, and near the opposite end of the side piece I provide a second piece, I.
Both these pieces have openings J therein. I next provide a piece, K, parallel with the side A. One end is provided with atenon, L, which slides laterally within the groove E. Mortises M through the piece K receive the transverse pieces G and I and permit it to slide laterally back and forth, and at the same time keep the tenon within the groove E. The upper and lower surfaces of this piece are also provided with pins D, and at suitable intervals are vertical openings N, within which I provide a pin or bolt, 0. I next provide two transverse pieces, P, with a short vertical piece, Q, framed between them at one end. The inner side of this vertical piece is provided with a small metallic stud,
(N0 model.)
B, and the inner surfaces of the transverse pieces have also the pins D.
When it is desired to stretch the curtains, the piece K is pushed outwardly a sufficient distance from the side A, and pins S placed on the inner side. I next place the pieces I? at such a distance from the end piece, 13, as the length of the curtain to be detached, with the stud It in one of the openings F, while the opposite end is prevented from moving' -the adjustable teimned, spiked, and niortised rail K, and the double-united rails, also spiked and adjustable by means of pins 0 R, all constructed and adapted to operate substantially in the manner and for the purposes described.
2. In a curtain-sfretcher, a rigid angular frame consisting of the rail A, provided with pins and perforations, the rail B, provided with pins and a groove, and the perforated tongues or guides G L, in combination with the transversely-adjustable rail K, its pins D S, and the double-connected rails, also provided with pins and adjustable on the rails A K, substantially as described.
3. In combination with a rigid angular frame and its guides, the laterally-adjustable rail K, and the longitudinally-adjustable double rails, all of said rails being provided with pins, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, this 29th day of April, 1884., in the presence of witnesses.
EUGENE SWVEITZER.
