(Cl. 210-370) The invention relates to a centrifugal machine comprising a drum with a spreader vibrating in axial direction, said drum being suspended to a vibration genera tor by means of a rod rigidly connected to said drum, said rod being rotat'ably supported in bearing means .and transmitting a vibrating motion to the drum, said drum being centered by means of a flexible membrane allowing the axial vibrating movement and being connected by said membrane to the rotating driving means, the vibration generator with suspension means and elastic boilers being mounted on the housing of the centrifugal machine. In such a mach-inc a large flow of material is to be handled, so a strong wearing eflect on the drum and the spreader occurs. The fastening means for the drum and the spreader are also exposed to this wearing effect and moreover to corrosion by the material which is handled. This is the reason that the renewal of the drum and the spreader is a complicated and time consuming job. It is an object of the invention to provide a centrifugal machine in which the renewal of the drum and the spreader takes very little time, so that the running costs of the machine according to the invention are considerably lower than of the known machine-s. According to the invention the drum and the spreader are constructed as renewable parts such that by unscrewing only a few nuts lying on the outside of the machine the whole upper part of the centrifugal machine can be taken away whereupon the wearing parts without the necessity of loosening further fas- .tening means can be taken away and renewed.
The invention will be further described with reference to the accompanying drawing.

The housing 1 of a centrifugal machine is closed by a cover 2, which is fastened by means of four nuts 3. The cover 2 has a central opening D and two strengthening ribs M extending transversely across the cover. Two bars A are welded to the closure 2 straddling the central opening D. A vibrator generator 4 is mounted on the cover 2 by means of four elastic bufler-s 5 which permit movements of a predetermined magnitude in vertical directions. The vibrator generator is conventional and comprises eccentrically arranged Weights carried by a shaft which is driven by a small elect-rornotor. The vibrator generator 4 includes a housing C for the bearings 7. Secured to this housing C are the four sleeves 5. Each sleeve 5 fixedly surrounds and holds a stack of tubular rubber elements E. Through each stack of rubber elements E extends the bolt F which is connected at its lower end with one of the bars A. By means of strips G and bolts a housing H, which contains the motor with rotating eccentric masses is attached to the housing C. The above described vibration generator and its mounting means are conventional and form no part of the present invention. In the vibrating generator a sleeve 6 is mounted by means of bearings 7. The sleeve 6 can rotate in the vibration generator 4, but in vertical direction it has to follow the movements of the generator 3,193,1fl6 Patented July 6, 1965 4. Through the sleeve 6 extends a suspension rod 8 which is connected by means of a part 9 to a flange 10. The flange 10 is connected, by means of a flexible membrane 11, secured by the unnumbered bolts shown in FIG. 1a, to the rotating driving means 12 which are driven by means of a belt 13 by a motor 14. A drum 15 is supported by the flange 10 .and is pressed on this flange by the lower end of a spreader 16 on the upper end of which presses the sleeve 6 or an intermediate sleeve 17. The upper end of the rod 8 is provided with a nut 18. By means of this nut the rod 8, part 9, the flange 10, the drum, the spreader 16, the intermediate sleeve 17 and the sleeve 6 are clamped together as a unit. Secured to the bars A is plate 22 from which depends a cylindrical sleeve 23 surrounding the intermediate sleeve 17. The vibrator generator oscillates in a. vertical direction under influence of the weights and being connected to the bearing 7 by the sleeve 6, the oscillatin g movements of the vibrator generator is transmitted through the intermediate sleeve 17, the spreader 16 and the suspension rod 8 to the drum 15. Due to the flexible membrane 11 the drive of the shaft 12 can be transmitted to the vertically oscillating drum without affecting the shaft 12 by the oscillations of the drum.
The housing 1 has been provided with an inlet 19 for the material and the liquid which is separated from the material flows into a conventional cylinder K surrounding the drum 15 and having a sloping bottom with an outlet tube 20 at its lowest portion.
The operation of the machine is as follows. For example, coal slurry is introduced into the drum 15 through the inlet 19 and duct 21 to a point near the axis of the drum within cylindrical sleeve 23. The slurry hits the spreader 16 and is directed downwardly toward the outer wall of the drum 15. The slurry water penetrates the drum 15 under the action of the centrifugal force and is drained through the outlet connection 20. The solid particles form a layer on the drum 1-5, which travels upwards under the action of the oscillating movement and the component of the centrifugal force. These dry solid particles leave the drum 15 over the upper rim thereof and drop through the annular space inside the housing 1 into a collecting bin arranged below the housing 1.
When the four nuts 3 and the nut 18 have been unscrewed the cover 2 with the vibrating generator 4 and the sleeve 6 can be lifted by means of a crane. Then the spreader 16 and the drum 15, left seated on flange 10 and about rod 8, can be easily removed by lifiting and renewed. After replacing these parts and the cover 2 the machine is again ready to work.
What I claim is:
1. A centrifugal machine comprising a support housing open at one side, a closure for said side having an opening, fastener means accessible from the exterior of the housing removably securing said closure to the housing, a bearing in said housing opposite said closure, a pulley having a spindle seated for rotation in said bearing, means for rotating said pulley and spindle, a rod coaxial with said spindle passing through said closure opening and having an outwardly directed element and a radial flange secured to its inner end near said pulley, a flexible membrane secured to said radial flange and said pulley to impart rotation to the flange but allow axial movements of the flange and connected rod, a vibration generator mounted on said closure, a first sleeve disposed about said rod and fixed to the generator to vibrate axially therewith, a drum within said support housing having an axis coaxial with said rod and an inner flange seated on said radial flange, a hollow spreader within said drum having a base seated on said inner flange of the drum and an apex surrounding said rod, a sec-0nd sleeve positioned about the rodand having ends which respectively engage said first sleeve and said apex of the spreader, and

spreader and first and second sleeves together, whereby upon unfastening said fastener means andsard; clamp means, the closure, vibration generator and first sleeve may be removed from the support housing leavingssaid second sleeve spreader and drum surrounding the rod and seated on said radial flange for ready removal and re-' placement. r
2. A centrifugal machine accordingto claim 1 wherein said clamp means comprises a single nut threaded on the outer end of said rod and engaging said first sleeve.
3. A centrifugal machine comprising .a support housing having side Walls and open .at its upper end, a closure 7 for said upper end having an opening, fastener means ac cessible'from the exterior of 'thehousing removab-ly securing said closure to the housing, a bearing in saidhousing opposite said closure, a pulley having a spindle seated, 26

Claims (1)

1. A CENTRIFUGAL MACHINE COMPRISING A SUPPORT HOUSING OPEN AT ONE SIDE, A CLOSURE FOR SAID SIDE HAVING AN OPENING, FASTENER MEANS ACCESSIBLE FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE HOUSING REMOVABLY SECURING SAID CLOSURE TO THE HOUSING, A BEARING IN SAID HOUSING OPPOSITE SAID CLOSURE, A PULLEY HAVING A SPINDLE SEATED FOR ROTATION IN SAID BEARING, MEANS FOR ROTATING SAID PULLEY AND SPINDLE, A ROD COAXIAL WITH SAID SPINDLE PASSING THROUGH SAID CLOSURE OPENING AND HAVING AN OUTWARDLY DIRECTED ELEMENT AND A RADIAL FLANGE SECURED TO ITS INNER END NEAR SAID PULLEY, A FLEXIBLE MEMBRANE SECURED TO SAID RADIAL FLANGE AND SAID PULLEY TO IMPART ROTATION TO THE FLANGE BUT ALLOW AXIAL MOVEMENT OF THE FLANGE AND CONNECTED ROD, A VIBRATION GENERATOR MOUNTED ON SAID CLOSURE, A FIRST SLEEVE DISPOSED ABOUT SAID ROD AND FIXED TO THE GENERATOR TO VIBRATE AXIALLY THEREWITH, A DRUM WITHIN SAID SUPPORT HOUSING HAVING AN AXIS COAXIAL WITH SAID ROD AND AN INNER FLANGE SEATED ON SAID RADIAL FLANGE, A FHOLLOW SPREADER WITHIN SAID DRUM HAVING A BASE SEATED ON SAID INNER FLANGE OF THE DRUM AND AN APEX SURROUNDING SAID ROD, A SECOND SLEEVE POSITIONED ABOUT THE ROD AND HAVING ENDS WHICH RESPECTIVELY ENGAGE SAID FIRST SLEEVE AND SAID APEX OF THE SPREADER, AND CLAMP MEANS ON THE OUTER END OF SAID ROD AND ENGAGING THE SAID FIRST SLEEVE TO CLAMP THE ROD, RADIAL FLANGE, DRUM, SPREADER AND FIRST AND SECOND SLEEVES TOGETHER, WHEREBY UPON UNFASTENING SAID FASTENER MEANS AND SAID CLAMP MEANS, THE CLOSURE, VIBRATION GENERATOR AND FIRST SLEEVE MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE SUPPORT HOUSING LEAVING SAID SECOND SLEEVE SPREADER AND DRUM SURROUNDING THE ROD AND SEATED ON SAID RADIAL FLANGE FOR READY REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT.
