If the handkerchief is not folded correctly it may not fit the pocket, or it may be received wholly within the pocket, resting on the bottom thereof, whereby it is not visible. Often the handkerchief must be folded several times before the desired result is obtained, .so that the handkerchief may not retain its freshly laundered crisp,

smooth appearance, and the operation must be repeated each time that a fresh handkerchief is inserted in the pocket. I

A good handkerchief suitable for use in the manner described, which may be made of quality linen, cotton, or

silk material, as desired, may be expensive and its useful life may be reduced in proportion to the number of times that it must be laundered, if in fact it may be laundered satisfactorily at all.

An object of this invention is to provide a holder for a folded handkerchief which may be conveniently inserted with the handkerchief in the breast pocket of a coat or jacket and withdrawn therefrom any number of times, or transferred from onecoat or jacket to another, as desired, using the same handkerchief without necessarily having removed it from the holder at any time, whereby the same handkerchief may be used may times without laundering and the necessity of folding or refolding a handkerchief, as the case may be, each time that a handkerchief is required is substantially avoided.

Another object of the invention is to provide a handkerchief holder as described having means for removably and adjustably securing the holder with a folded handkerchief in place therein to the material of a coat or jacket comprising the inside of a pocket in which it is worn wherebyan upper edge portion of the handkerchief is adapted to be adjustably positioned relative to the top of the pocket independently of the relative dimensions of the pocket and the holder and the handkerchief received therein.

A further object of the invention is to provide a ban kerchief holderias described which is characterized by its simplicity and its attractive appearance and which may be produced inexpensively and is efiicient in operation and durable in use.

7 An advantageous feature of the invention is that it increases the useful life of a handkerchief by avoiding the need for laundering it as described whereby the same handkerchief may be'used'over and .over while at the same time retaining its original attractive appearance.

The invention contemplates a holder for a folded handkerchiefwhich comprises a' substantially rectangular envelope, open at one of its ends, which in use is positioned uppermost, formed of plastic sheet material such as vinyl resin adapted to. have a folded handkerchief inserted therein from its open end with an edge portion of the handkerchief extending outwardly beyond said open end of the envelope, the envelope consisting essentially of two ice juxtaposed, substantially rectangular pieces of plastic sheet material having their bottom edges and portions of their opposite side edges adjoining said bottom edges joined together by application of heat and pressure and having separable upper edge portions corresponding to the upper edge portions of the envelope for convenience in inserting a handkerchief in the envelope, and means as hereinafter described for removably connecting said upper edge portions to each other and the material of a coat or jacket forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received whereby said upper edge portion of the handkerchief is adapted to be adjustably positioned relative to the top of the pocket.

One form of the invention contemplates a holder for a folded handkerchief in which the upper edge portions of the envelope are removably connected to each other adjacent their top corners by snap fasteners and the envelope is removahly and adjustably connected to the material of a coat or jacket forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received by tacks similar to tie tacks having protective covers applied to their pointed ends which advantageously may be combined with one of the elements of the snap fasteners, respectively.

In another form, the invention contemplates a holder for a folded handkerchief as described in which the upper edge portions of the envelope are removably connected to each other and the envelope is removably and adjustably connected to the material of a coat or jacket forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received by tacks similar to tie tacks having protective covers applied to their pointed ends, said tacks being passed through the material of the handkerchief.

The invention will be readily understood by referring to the following description and the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIGURE 1 is :a front view of a handkerchief holder embodying the invention with a folded handkerchief received therein, showing :an upper edge portion of the handkerchief extending above the top of the holder.

FIGURE 2 is a front view showing fragmentarily a portion of a coat or jacket having a breast pocket the-rein, showing a folded handkerchief and its holder as illustrated in FIGURE 1 operatively positioned in said pocket.

FIGURE 3 is a side elevational view on an enlarged scale of the folded handkerchief and its holder illustrated in FIGURE 1, partly broken away to show details of construction, showing the upper edge portions of the envelope in their separated positions to facilitate inserting the handkerchief in the envelope and showing the protective cover disengaged from a tack whereby the upper edge portions of the envelope are adapted to be removably and adjustably connected to the material of a coat or jacket forming the inside of .a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received, said tack being combined with one .of the elements of a snap fastener whereby, said upper edge portions are removably connected to each other.

FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary view on an enlarged scale, partly broken away to show details of construction, showing the upper edge portions of the envelope in their connected positions and showing said upper edge portions removably and adjustably connected to the material of a coat or jacket forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received; and

FIGURE 5 is a view similar to FlGURE 4 in which the upper edge portions of the envelope are removably connected to each other and the envelope is removably and adjustably connected to the material of a coat or jacket forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received by tacks, one of which is shown, having protective covers applied to their pointed numeral 1 designates generally a coat or jacket, shown f-ragmentarily in FIGURE 2, havinga breast pocket 2 therein. A folded handkerchief 3 having a holder 4 as illustrated in FIGURE 1, which is shown in dotted lines in FIGURE 2, is received in the pocket 2.

The holder 4 includes a substantially rectangular envelope 5, open at one of its ends, as at 6, which in use is positioned uppermost as illustrated in FIGURE 1. The envelope 5 is formed of plastic sheet material such as vinyl resin and is adapted to have a folded handkerchief such as the handkerchief 3 inserted therein from its open end 6 with an edge portion of the handkerchief extending outwardly beyond said open end 6 of the envelope 5.

The envelope 5 consists essentially of two juxtaposed, substantially rectangular pieces 7 of plastic sheet material having their bottom edges 8 and portions of their opposite side edges 9 adjoining said bottom edges djoined together by application of heat and pressure and having separable upper edge portions 10 corresponding to the upper edge portions of the envelope 5 for convenience in inserting a handkerchief such as the handkerchief 3 in the envelope 5.

As shown in FIGURES. 1 m4 the upper edge portions 10 of the envelope 5 are removably connected to each other adjacent their top corners by snap fasteners 11 and the envelope 5 is removably and adjustably connected to the material of the coat or jacket 11 forming the inside of the pocket 2 by tacks indicated generally by the numerals 12, which resemble tacks of the type which are employed to hold opposite end portionsof a necktie in place and which may be of any suitable construction. The tacks 12 have protective covers 13 applied to their pointed ends, and as shown are combined with one of the elements of the snap fasteners 11, respectively.

In the modified form of the invention shown in FIG.- URE 5 th'e'upper edge portions 10 of the envelope 5 are removably connectedto each other and the envelope 5 is removably and adjustably connected, to the materialof the coat or jacket 1 forming the inside of the pocket 2 by tacks 14 similar to the tacks 12 shown in FIGURES 1 to 4, which have protective covers 15 applied to their pointed ends. As shown, the tacks 14-are passed through the material of the handkerchief 3. The protective covers 15 may be joined to each other by a chain 16.

The invention is not limited to the exemplary construction herein shown and described, but may be made in various ways within the scope o-f the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A holder for a folded handkerchief for insertion with the handkerchief in the breast pocket of a coat comprising a substantially rectangular envelope, open atone of its ends, which in use is positioned uppermost, formed of,

plastic sheet material adapted to have a folded handkerchief inserted therein from itsopen end with an edge portion of the handkerchief extending outwardly beyond said open end of the envelope, the envelope having separable upper edge portionsfor convenience in inserting a handkerchief therein, and snap fastener means and tack means for removably connecting said upper edge portions to each. other and to the material of a coat forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder. are adapted to be received whereby said upper edge portion of the handkerchief is adapted to be adjustably positioned relative to thetop of the pocket, said upper edge portions of the envelope being removably connected to each other adjacent their top corners by said snap fastener means and said tack means for removably connecting said upper edge portions to the material of -a coat forming the inside of a pocket in which the hand- 4 j kerchief and its holder are adapted to be received consisting of a pair of tacks having protective covers applied to their pointed ends.

4. Thestructure of claim 3, said tacks being passed through said upper edgeportions of the envelope adjacent their top corners and being adapted to be passed through the material of a,coat forming the inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief: and itsholder are received.

The combination ,of a folded handkerchief and a holder therefor for'insertion with the handkerchief in the 7 breast pocket of a coat, said holder comprising a substantiallyrectangular envelope, open at one of its ,ends, which in use is positioned uppermost, formed of plastic sheetmaterial having the folded handkerchief inserted thereinfrom its open end with an edge port-ion of the handkerchief extending outwardly. beyond said open end of the envelope, the envelope having separable upper edge portions for convenience in inserting the handkerchief therein, and means for removably connecting said upper edge portions to each other and tothe material of a coat forming the: inside of a pocket in which the handkerchief and its holder are received, whereby said upper edge portion of the handkerchief is adapted to be ,adjustably positioned relative to the top of the pocket, consisting of a pair of tacks having protective covers applied to their pointed ends, said tacks being passed through said upper edge portions of the envelope adjacent their top corners and being adapted to bepassed through the material of a coat forming the inside of a pocket in Which the handkerchief and its holder are received...

Claims

1. A HOLDER FOR A FOLDED HANDKERCHIEF FOR INSERTION WITH THE HANDKERCHIEF IN THE BREAST POCKET OF A COAT COMPRISING A SUBSTANTIALLY RECTANGULAR ENVELOPE, OPEN AT ONE OF ITS ENDS, WHICH IN USE IS POSITIONED UPPERMOST, FORMED OF PLASTIC SHEET MATERIAL ADAPTED TO HAVE A FOLDED HANDKERCHIEF INSERTED THEREIN FROM ITS OPEN END WITH AN EDGE PORTION OF THE HANDKERCHIEF EXTENDING OUTWARDLY BEYOND SAID OPEN END OF THE ENVELOPE, THE ENVELOPE HAVING SEPARABLE UPPER EDGE PORTIONS FOR CONVENIENCE IN INSERTING A HANDKERCHIEF THEREIN, AND SNAP FASTENER MEANS AND TACK MEANS FOR REMOVABLY CONNECTING SAID UPPER EDGE PORTIONS TO EACH OTHER AND TO THE MATERIAL OF A COAT FORMING THE INSIDE OF A POCKET IN WHICH THE HANDKERCHIEF AND ITS HOLDER ARE ADAPTED TO BE RECEIVED WHEREBY SAID UPPER EDGE PORTION OF THE HANDKERCHIEF IS ADAPTED TO BE ADJUSTABLY POSITIONED RELATIVE TO THE TOP OF THE POCKET, SAID
