NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS MEYERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUTTON FOR GLOVES, sw.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 317,662, dated-` May 12, 1885.
Application filed March 9, 18?.'5.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS MEYERs, a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have inventedan Improved Button for Gloves, Src., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis aface View of a glove having my improved button. Fig. 2 is a face view of a different kind of glove having said button. Fig. 3 is an enlarged bottom view of the button, partly in section, the line k 7c, Fig. 4, showing the plane of section; and Fig. 4 is a side view, partly in section, of the button.
This invention relates to a new construction of button for fastening gloves, umbrellas, shoes, satchels, and the like, and it consists in cornbining in one button two distinct parts, the one part being a fixed stud, the other a movable eccentric cap, all as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, with reference to Figs. 3 and 4, the letter A represents a stud having a head, c, and a neck, b. This stud is securely fastened by suitable means, which I need not here describe for they are. well known, to a fabric, B.
C is a cap having a projecting loop or eye, d, by which it is attached to an elastic band, e, or analogous fabric.
This cap has an ec- (No model.)
centric lip, f, on its under side, opposite to the side where the loop d is attached. When the fabrics B and e are to be buttoned together, the cap C is placed over the stud A, so that its lipf catches under the head a, as in Fig. 4.
For unfastening the button, it is only necessary to press against the cap C, so as to push the lip f away from under the head a, Where upon the cap can be readily lifted on" the stud, or will fall off. If the lip f went all the Way around on the lower side of the cap, the unbuttoning operation could be performed only with great difliculty, because any motion of 45 the cap C would bring another portion of the lip under the head of the stud.
In Figs. 1 and 2 I have represented my invention as applied to gloves of different kinds; and it is perfectly clear that the invention is 5o equally applicable to other articlesthan gloves.
I claim- 1. The combination of the stud A, having head a, with the cap C, having eccentric lip f, substantially as herein shown and described. 55
2. The combination of the stud A, having head a, with the cap C, having lip f and loop d, as specified.
l LOUIS MEYERS. Iitnesses:
CHARLES G. M. THOMAS,
HARRY M. TURK.
