IORETTO CORY, OF SHELBYVILLE, INDIANA.
WATER-PROOF GARNI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,245, dated Apri121, 1885.
Application filed July Q9,1SS4. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, LoRR'rTo CoRY, a eitizen of the United States, residing at Shelbyville, in the county of Shelby and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVater-Iroof Garments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same', reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, andv to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my improved garment, showing it in use; Fig. 2, a perspective view kof the cape with sleeve attached; Fig. 3, a similar view in detail of one of the sleeves ofthe cape; Fig. 4, a perspective view showing the interior construction of the skirt; Fig. 5, a perspective view of the inner portion ofthe skirt provided with means for fastening it around the waist of the wearer, and Fig. 6 a detail view of the outer and inner portions of the skirt.
Ihe present invention has for its object to provide a waterproof garment forladies wear, consisting ot'acoinbined skirt, skirt-protector, and cape with hood and detachable sleeves, constructed substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represcnts the skirt open in the front and fastened by buttons or other suitable means. The skirt A around its interior, near the bottom, is provided with a band, a, having suitable buttonholes for fastening thereto the protector B, which is composed of any suitable cloth. The band a, as should be noticed, is stitched to the skirt along its upper edge only, leaving the lower portion of the band free to be fastened to the buttons on the protector B with little trouble.
Any suitable means may be employed for fastening the protector to the band of the skirtsuch as hooks and eyes-so long as it will admit of the protector being readily disconnected therefrom.
The protector B is long enough to be folded up at the bottom beneath the dress and other skirts, and is decreased in fullness by being gathered onto a smaller band, b, which is fastened by means of buttons or hooks to a band, c, provided with holes or rings and suspended by a series of tapes, d, from a band, e, fastened around the waist beneath the dress and other petticoats.
By means of the above-described garment an envelope is formed wherein the dress and petticoats are inclosed, protecting them in bad weather from any mud or moisture.
An important feature in the protector is its fullness, which gives room enough for it to be worn over several skirts without crumpling them in the least, and being drawn into such a small band beneath the petticoats prevents it being cumbersome to the l-imbs of the wearer. Another feature is that it may be adjusted to any other skirt or the gossamcr circulars now in common use by simply sewing a band provided with button-holes or rings on the inner side thereof the required distance from the bottom.
To complete the garment I provide a suitable waterproof ca-pe, O, having the hood D and sleeves E, the latter being detachably con- Vnected to the cape by buttons or other fastenings, this acting in connection with the other portions of the garment to make a complete protector to the wearer.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described water-proof skirt, consisting of the circular A, provided with a band, a., near its lower end, and the protector B, detachably connected to said band and to a band, c, supported by a series of straps, d, from a waist-band, e.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence -9o i `Witnesses:
