CARTRIDGE-BELT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,698, dated April 14, 1885.

Be it known that I, W. P. BEACH, of El Paso, El Paso county, Texas, have invented a' new and Improved Cartridge-Belt, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved cartridge-belt for holding cartridges securely, the said belt being simple in construction, strong, and durable.

The invention consists in the combination, with a belt, ofa strap held on the same by upright metal fasteners and forming pockets on the belt.

The invention also consists in the combination, with the above belt and strap, of a cord passed transversely through the several pockets,andin other combinations of parts, as will be fully set forth and described hereinafter.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a face view of my improved belt, parts being broken out. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the same On the face ofa leather belt, A, a strap, B, is held at suitable intervals by upright metal fasteners E,whereby a series of upright pockets, 0, open at the top and bottonnare formed for receiving the cartridges D. These pockets may, if desirable, be made large ap l small, as shown, for cartridges of different sizes, or may all be of the same size. The fasteners are each provided with a short central prong, F, and a flexible thinner prong, G, atthe top and bottom. The end prongs, G, are passed over the edges of the strap B, and the prongs F through the strap B and through the belt A, and the top and bottom and middle prongs are bent over on the inner side of the belt or clinched. In each side of each pocket an aperture, H, is formed at the middle, and through the apertures a cord or leather strip, J, is passed,which has one end secured to one end of the strap B, and the other end secured to they buckle-pin K, the cord passing over the fasteners E, as shown. The buckle L is secured on one end of the strap B, and to the other end the strap M is secured, which is of such width that it can be passed through the buckle. The cartridges are passed into the pockets, and are between the pockets and the cord J, and can easily be passedinto the pockets when the belt is straight. By passing the belt around the waistband and closing it the cord J is drawn taut and presses the cartridges firmly against the inner sides of the pockets, thus holding them in place securely. When many cartridges are to be held in the belt, or when only large cartridges are to be held, the cord J is slaclrened, and when but few cartridges or small cartridges are to be held the cord is tightened.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a belt, of a strap held on the same by upright metal fasteners, which separate the pockets formed in said strap, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. The combination, with a belt, of a strap held on the same by metal fasteners E between the pockets formed by the strap, the said fasteners having prongs passed through the strap and bent over or clinched on the inside of the belt, substantially as herein shown and described.

3. The combination, with a belt, of a strap forming pockets, and a cord passed through the several pocket-s, substantially as herein shown and described.

4. The combination, with a belt, of a strap secured on the same by metal fasteners E, and separating the formed pockets G, and of the cord J, passed through the pockets and over the fasteners, substantially as herein shown and described.

5. The combination, with the belt A, of the strap B, held on the same and forming pockets, and of the cord J, secured on one end of the strap B, passed through the pockets, and having its other end secured to the bucklepin K, substantially as herein shown and described.
