Description

UNITED STATES WILLIAM E. MURBARGEB, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOROF ONE-HALF TO THOMAS C. DOBBINS, OF SAME PLACE.
. PATENT OFFICE.
ANTl-RATTLER FOR THILL-COUPLINGS.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,535, dated April 14, 1885.
Application filed August 7,1884. (N model.)
To all whom it mg concern;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. MURBAR- GER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and 5 State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Anti-Rattlers for Thills; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in anti-rattlers for thills; and'it consists of asteel plate bent upon itself, with ears extending down at the sides from thetop end to embrace the ends of the coupling-pin. The other end has a concavity on its faceto partially embrace the eye of the thill-iron, and beneath said concavity is a clip to prevent the anti-rattler from becoming detached.
The mechanism is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a side view of a jack-clip with the anti-rattler attached. Fig. II is a front view of the antirattler.
At A is represented the ordinary form of jack-clip for thills. V
B is the thill-iron, which is connected to the clip by a pin or bolt. I
The dotted lines at E, Figs. I and II, show the position of the pin. The pin is cylindrical, and is only sufliciently long to extend the width of the jack-clip. The anti-rattler F is cut out of plate-steel and bent upon itself, as
shown .in Fig. I.
ing the point between the ears of the jack clip, and is forced down until the eye of the thill-iron enters the concavity, where it is sew curely held by the resilience of the metal,
and is further protected against being detached by the clip, as before specified. The ears of 5 the same hold the pin in position. y y The same device may be used without the ears, and then a bolt must be substituted for the pin.
Having fully described my invention, what I I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
coupling-pin, and clip D to retain the same in I I position in the jack'clip, substantially as set forth.
In testimony thatIclaim theforegoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. I
WILLIAM E. MURBARGER.
