THlLL-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,942, dated May 20, 1884. Application filed January 22, 1884. (Model.)
1"0 (LZZ whom it may col warn:
.Be it known that I, MIL'roN EUGENE CAM- PANY, of Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented a new andImproved Thin-Coupling, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in thin-couplings; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a cross-sectional elevation of an axle provided with my improved thill-coupling. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the coupling on the line as m, Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a crosssectional. elevation of the coupling attachment.
The clip A, held on the axle B, is provided with two jaws or lugs, G, projecting from the front, which jaws are provided with apertures at the ends. The eye D, formed on the rear end of the thill E, fits in between the jaws, and the pin F can be passed through the apertures in the jaws or lugs G and through the eye D. The pin F is provided with the arm f, to the end of which is pivoted one end of a block or piece, G, at the opposite end of which a hook, H, is pivoted, which is adapted to be passed over the free end of the pin F after the same has been passed through the jaws or lugs O and the eye D. The upper surface of the block or piece G is recessed, and on the same a rubber or other cushion, K, is held by a screw passed through the bottom of the piece G, or in any other suitable manner, against which cushion the under surface of the eye D is pressed, whereby the rattling of the thill is prevented. The axle-clip and the thilLeye are not changed; but the, coupling-pin is provided with a piece, G, carrying the cushion K. If the thill is to be uncoupled, the hook H is swung from the end of the pin F, the piece G swings downward, and the pin can then be withdrawn.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a thill-coupling, the combination, with the coupling-pin F, provided with the arm f at one end, of the block G, pivoted to the end of the said arm, the hook H, pivoted to the free end of the block, and the cushion K, secured to the upper face of the block, substantially as herein shown and described.
