UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GAYLORD V. BEEBE, OF SWANTON, VERMONT.
sTovE-PIPE..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,783, dated March 31, 1885 Application tiled May 31, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, GAYLORD W. BEEBE,a citizen of the-'United States, residing` at Swanton, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,'and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figurel of the drawings is a side view of a st0ve-pipe, showing my improvement. Fig. 2 is a transverse section. Fig. 3 is a similar view, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detail sectional views of the same.
rIhis invention has relation to stove-pipes; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims appended.
The object of this invention is to provide a secure stove-pipe with chimney-connections having simple fastenings adapted to be easily operated, and serving to connect the j oints from the stove to the chimney, and also to the thin ble or pipein the chimney.
In the accompanying drawings, the letters A A and B B designate the sections of the stove-pipe, the section B having its seat in the chimney-aperture. The section A is designed to be connected to the thimble-flange ofthe stove. The sections A are provided each at one end With an inward bevel, (indicated at 0,) whereby it is adapted to readily enter the adjacent end of the next section. A little back ofthe beveled margin are made, in opposite sides of this end, pert'orations or slots d d, the slots extending in the direction ofthe circular elements of the pipe. Perl'orations e e are made in opposite sides of the other end` of the section for the passage of a fastening` rod, F, which is threaded at one end. After the beveled end of the section is entered into the adjacent end of the neXt'section the slots (No model.)
of the inserted end arebrought to register with the perforations of `the outer circumseribing end of the adjacent section, and the joint is connected by passing the rod F through the perforations and slots and securing it by applying a nut, G, upon the threaded end. /Vhen this connection is made.the slots allow the connected sections to be turned a little in either directiomso that properadjustments can be made for elbows. As the section B,which is secured Iin position in the chimney, cannot be turned, the adjacent section, B, is connect` ed thereto in the following manner: The slots hof the section B are formed with central entrance-passages, k, which open at the beveled margin, as shown. The other or chimney section, B', is provided with a transverse keyrod, Z, which is headed at each end in its diametric position. Vhen these parts are to be joined, the slotted section is easily entered in the other section, so that the slot entrances receive the rod. When pushed home, the section B can be turned a little, securing the connection in the chimney.
`Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1sw
l. A connected stove-pipe consisting of sections having beveled ends slotted back of their beveled margins to permit a rotary movement, and having at their opposite ends transverse connecting-rods adapted to engage the slots of the marginally-beveled ends, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the stove-pipe section having its end beveled and slotted on opposite sides at d d back of the bevel, of the adjacent section having opposite perforations.. e e, and the transverse connecting-rod F and nut G, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GAYLOR-D W. BEEBE.
