UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES L. Loewe, or DALLAS CENTRE, IOWA, ASSIGNOR o HIMSELF, FORTUNATUS HUBBARD, AND JUDSON PURINTON, OF SAME PLACE.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. I 77,729, dated May 23,1876; application filed March 21, 1876. p i v To all whom itmay concern v Be it known that I, JAMES L. LORING,of DallasUentre, Dallas county, Iowa, have invented a new. and Improved Stove-PipeJoint, of which the following is a s 'iecification Figure 1 representsai'vertical central sec; tion on' line 0 0,'Fig. 2, of my improved stoveand Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same. p
Similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved stovepipe joint that forms a solid and firm connection ot'the pipes, so that they cannot be pulled apart or pushed together, while being'i'eadily disconnected when required.
The invention consists of slots or recesses atthe end of one pipe, in connection with rivets or studs of the other pipe end, the
rivets having broad interior heads, and shanks nearly of the width of the slots. p
In the drawing, A and B represent the stovepipes that are to be connected. The end ofthe Stovepipe A slides into theiend of pipe B, and locks, by two or more slots or recesses,
C, on studs or rivets D of vpipe B. The re cesses G aremade of curved or L shape, and extend from the edge inwardly to guide the rivets D,'Which slide by their shanks, having nearly the width of the slots, up to the ends of the same, and bind by broad heads on' the inner pipe, and lock the pipes securely together.
The outer and thinner ends of the rivets D areapplied to small holes of the pipe B by means of the shanks that form shoulders bearing on the pipe, and byflattening the outer ends of the rivets, the stove-pipes are quicklydetached by turning the outer pipe so that the rivets move back in the slots and discontinue the. interlocking with the slots.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaiin as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcurved slot 0, and broad-headed stud D, as p shownand described.
