  • the blade which is arranged adjacent to the last reed tooth during the return motion of the beater frame is stationary as regards the latter and does not turn while the second blade is turnable relative to the fixed blade about a transversal axis. Furthermore, the operating mechanism is regulated so that the blades close at the moment in which the beater frame comes forward.
  • the movable blade is already raised when the point thereof comes to the withdrawing line, and when this point passes over the said line there is no risk of catching and cutting the auxiliary selvage thread between the blades, which thread is just tensioned in lateral direction and at the level of the said withdrawing line, as in the instant of the beating action the finger of the selvage device must be separated from the beater frame.
  • the closed blades which are in vertical position at the side of the reed, cannot interfere with the adjacent fabric guiding device.
  • the movable blade of each device is mounted on a shaft which is transversely mounted on the said'beater frame and common to both devices, which, obviously, facilitates the construction as in this case it is only necessary to have a single operating mechanism in order to operate both devices.
  • This mechanism may comprise a connecting rod articulated on the one hand to an arm mounted on the above transverse shaft and, on the other, to a fixed point.
  • a suction nozzle is located on the beater frame so that the same sucks and holds in a tensioned condition the free end of the filler thread during the cutice ting operation of the same.
  • This nozzle is preferably mounted below the lower threads of the warp with the purpose of sucking downwardly the free end of the filler thread corresponding to the action of gravity for placing the free end against the second blade of the cutting device.

  • a corresponding movable blade 16 is mounted on shaft 15 so that in the rear position of the beating frame it is placed in a substantially horizontal position and directed towards the front end of the loom, that is to say, towards the right side of the FIG. 3 (the front end of the loom being, as usual, the end thereof where the fabric is coiled).
  • the shaft 15 carries mounted thereon a q or driving arm 17 to which a small connecting rod 19 is connected by a pivot joint 18, the said connecting rod being, in turn, articulated at the pivot pin 20 secured to a fixed support 20a on the stationary loom frame.
  • the shaft 15 extends through all of the width of the beating frame 2a, on which it is supported by means of two lateral supponts 21. It carries the blade 16 of both cutting devices which, in this manner, are operated simultaneously by the small connecting rod 19.
